Hi,
I am making a birthday cake with a picture on it. I ordered the edible image and want to know if anyone has any tips on how to put it on the cake. It's my first time doing a photo cake so I am a little nervous.

Thanks,
Kimmie

It's easy. Peel the image from the backing sheet and place on iced cake. Make sure it goes on before the icing crusts. You may want to hold from both ends and start applying in the middle - laying it down from the center helps keep out air bubbles.

Good luck!

Thank you Debbie. I feel better knowing that it is an easy task.

Will the picture crack if I put it in the fridge? Would I be safe putting it together today if the cake is for tomorrow?

If you have any problems taking the frosting sheet off the backing paper...roll it down the edge of your counter. It will loosen it for you but be careful, they can tear! Although the instructions say to place the image on the cake before the icing crusts...I prefer to wait until it has slightly crusted, that way I can still move it around if I need to!

Well, the cake was a success! Well Kind of.
The cake tasted yummy and my roses came out nice. The picture came off the backing nicely and then when I put it on the cake it bunched up a bit and was a little crooked. It had already stuck to the cake so I couldnt fix it and since it was crooked I couldnt add a border to it. But for my first photo cake I think it turned out neat. Next time, I will definitly wait till the BC crusts completely!!!! Mine I think was still a little wet and it sucked the picture up right when I laid it on it.

Also, on a 9 x 13 I had a hard time making the top of the cake smooth, I tried the warm spatula but always got lines. Any advice?

I print them all the time. Its funny, I've bought sheets from Sugarcraft and they peel right off...I've bought sheets from Kopykake and they are stuck on that backing for dear life. I was told it was because the ones from Kopykake are fresher and have probably not been sitting on the shelf.

You can go to the Kopykake website for some tips.

Kopykake recommends popping it in the freezer for 10-15 seconds. I've done that once and it does work.

Lisa told me that blow drying the sheet will work and I can tell you from trying that method out, it definitely does work. Just hold the sheet on one corner and bring your blow dryer back and forth above the image.

The reason it doesn't like to come off is a couple things. The frosting sheets could be extremely fresh and also, the ink is still wet. I seem to be printing mine at the last minute, so this happens often.

The freezer worked for me, but I don't like it because I am concerned about something dripping - God forbid water from my icemaker or something....

The blow drying works great. Also, after immediately printing the picture while you are letting the image dry, I sometimes lay the sheet on top of a large bowl so that the air circulates all around it.

I am glad it worked out for you.
(I ruined about 3 sheets from Kopykake trying to get the image off the "fresher" sheets the first time. I think I prefer the less fresh ones!!! hahaha

Good Luck.
