Hi Everyone,
There seems to be a lot of debate on number of slices on each size cake depending on how it is sliced so I wanted to figure it out for myself and was surprised to find some of the cakes actually yield more servings than Wilton says for the same dimensions. Wilton's 10" round says 28 and I got 30. And Wilton's 12" round says 40 and I got 44. So take it for what you want.

I just took some of my cardboard cake circles and some freezer paper and made templates to use for slicing guides. For those that need a visual aid for slicing like I do, I hope this helps.

I posted all the pictures in the Templates gallery for anyone to use.

Based on two layer cakes:
6" round- 10 slices, 1 1/2" x 2"
6" round- 12 slices, 1" x 2"
8" round- 16 slices, 1 1/2" x 2"
8" round- 20 slices, 1" x 2"
10" round- 30 slices, 1 1/2" x 2"
12" round- 44 slices, 1 1/2" x 2"
14" round- 60 slices, 1 1/2" x 2"

Sheet cakes: one layer.
9" x 13"- 16 slices, cut 4 across and 4 down.
9" x 13"- 20 slices, cut 4 across and 5 down.
9" x 13"- 24 slices, cut 4 across and 6 down.
12" x 18"- 36 slices, cut 4 across and 9 down.
12" x 18"- 50 slices, cut 5 across and 10 down.

That was a lot of work....thanks for sharing your efforts with us!

So you price sheet cakes with a 2x3 piece instead of a 2x2 piece?

Can you share what wilton chart you were using? the one I use shows 38 pcs from a 2-layer 10" and shows 56 pcs from a 2-layer 12". http://www.wilton.com/wedding/cakeinfo/cakedata.cfm

Thanks!

I was just giving different size options because I know some people cut slices larger than others. So this way everyone can see how big they would be. ( at my house you'd be real lucky if you 16 slices out of a 9x13 icon_biggrin.gif )

Debi, I was using the Wilton party cake guides as reference. I believe what you mentioned below was for the wedding cake guide which surely does have more servings since the slices are smaller.

Happy to help!
