Did anyone see the "Celebration Cake"challenge on Food Network. The one with 5 or 6 teams in different colors, where each team member would rotate hourly and take turns working on their cakes? We had a storm and I lost the dish signal,so I missed the last ten mins
. Who won? It went to commercial and showed that the woman on the pink team loses it and is crying. To me she was not a team player. I understand people, including myself can be picky about certain things but to me she was very short and b----y with her teammate. Please someone fill me in.

There is another thread about this, I think titled "celebration cakes".
But, the green team won. I think the pink team got third. Not sure about second.

We were all very excited for her as you can see!

I saw it... the ladies in pink - won second place. The gray team (I think) that did the Grand Opening of the Art Museum won third. The lime green team won first place.
The lady in pink (chinese) apologized to her team mate for being ugly to her.
No cakes fell.
I am going to go there to post my congrats to cakebaker. I didn't know she was part of the forum!!! WOW!
I personally liked three of them: the green one, the pink and black with the purse on top and the one with the gift boxes on the side and the the cute teddy bear.
I was VERY annoyed with the oriental lady that kept on criticizing and saying that she was fixing all of her partner's work. When she said at the beginning of the show that the biggest problem that night was going to be EGOs and that cake decorators are "NASTY PEOPLE" I smelled 'TROUBLE"!!! And sure enough! The other poor lady was so upset at the end and rolling her eyes! They worked separately at first but then came together at the end...! That was the worst!!! The oriental lady barely let the other touch or do anything and then almost made a critical remark and stopped before saying the whole thing: it was like "Oh, no, no wonder you...." and then stopped.
At the end she cried and apologize to the other one, but I think the damage, emotionally, was done. What a terrible thing!
Then the green team was also having minor issues but pulled through.
SUCH DRAMA!!!!
No cakes fell.
Well actually when the guy in the black team was stacking his cake and before it was iced, the second section fell over, but he was able to recover it. But at the end, they were all able to keep them in one piece.
I agree, the oriental lady had an attitude from the beginning, she was not a team player, and her partner showed more professionalism by the way she reacted and tried to make the best of it. Regarding the oriental lady perhaps she's a bit of a perfectionist, which is not a bad thing, but she just had to use more diplomacy.
Anyone know if it will air again? I missed it (darn kids and their control over the t.v.) Thanks,
Amy
keonicakes - in one of the other posts about this topic someone listed all of the air dates.
Do a search for Celebration Cakes.
In one of the posts, it has a link to the lady in pink's web site...she has some awsome cakes, so if being a perfectionist is what it takes, well then....
But, there is something to be said about going with the flow and adapting...and being nice.
Here is a link to the upcoming Food Network Challenge TV Schedule for several different challenges, including the Celebration Cakes Challenge:

All of them are worth watching again ![]()
I have recorded most of the challenges to DVD so I can watch them in the kitchen anytime while I work.
Have you seen the oriental lady's cakes??!!!! Heck yeah she's a perfectionist!!! Her cakes are AMAZING and she has a ton of background working w/ fondant - and I don't think the other lady had as much experience and the oriental woman just got frustrated. I'm trying to find her site but I can't remember what the name of it is.............. shoot - but she is really amazing.
The asian lady is Marjorie Chua and her website is www.letthemeatcake.net
She did have a big problem with her attitude but.....hey...... when it's $10,000. None the less their cake turned out beautiful.
I completely agreed with the 1st place cake though. I thought it was the perfect example of a 'Celebration Cake'.
Thanks for finding that link - I just went and looked at her pictures again - gosh I wish I could take classes from her..... Why can't I have any of these amazing decorators (Colette, Mike, Nic Lodge, this woman, etc) near me??? There is one woman who used to work with ICES, but she only teaches classes on the weekdays during the day and I have a job...... ![]()
As far as the competition though - no I totally thought the winners deserved to win. Their cake really was the best.
Some of you are going to be very pleased (including myself!!).
I just searched the TiVo for the Celebration Cakes challenge and it's going to be re-aired this Sunday (7/30) at 3:00pm on Food Network.
Everybody get the TiVo's ready!! ![]()

That's what vacations are for....lol....call it a working vacation!
I saw it. I understand that the lady in pink was a "perfectionist" but you have to be tactful about it. I thought the green striped cake was so cute. The pink and black as well. And the tribute to the art gallery was really unique.
Do I dare mention the cake that got the third place?
I am sorry, but I think it was horrendous!! ![]()
