Do you ever "just" frost a cake? Or does it have to have decoration?

I made a cinnamon swirl cake with cc frosting because I REALLY needed cake today, but just had to add a fbct to it for practice. [/quote]

OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes you just want cake! Besides my frosting is very tasty and worthy of eating without decoration! Who wants the additional mess all the time icon_smile.gif

Nope, I just can't leave the poor thing naked! I have to add SOMETHING, usually something I want to practice. I'm with you! thumbs_up.gif

Easy!!! I sometimes wonder whether I'm baking primarily for the flavor (especially of the frosting) or for the decorations (so-so buttercream). icon_confused.gif I did a birthday cake last week with strawberry cream cheese icing, so it had little flecks of mashed strawberries, and I left it casually fluffed and puffed. Still, I had to do the "Happy Birthday" thing - ended up putting a bbig bunch of chocolate covered strawberries in the center. PAT

If it's just for family, then yes. Sometimes we just cut the cake and smear icing on top of our own pieces! LOL If it's going out the door, though, I can't help but to put at least a border and something on it, lol.

Many times I have made a cake just for the sake of having some carbs. It is very tempting to just dive right in after I put the frosting on but I always have some mmf lying around so I will usually put some little accents on it.

My family only like the yellow cake with chocolate frosting. So when they want a cake I make one frosted with no decorations.

They don't like any decorations on cakes or cookies. Just plain yellow cake and (boring)chocolate chip w/nuts cookies.

I am sadly not capable of leaving a cake naked...much to my husband's chagrin (can't you just ice it? it'd be so much faster). Nope, can't happen. I always have to at least have smooth icing with a border.

When I make a cake, I get repeated inquiries from my DH, "Is it ready to eat yet?" (even as I'm pouring it into the pan), and, "Your cake sure is yummy, is it ready yet?"(as I put it in the oven- you get the idea). Sometimes, I have been able to hold him off long enough to decorate it tapedshut.gif , other times he's just too insistant and I give up. I'm going to try to learn to make figurines out of MMF and flowers from gumpaste- then I could make them ahead and might be able to get a border on and throw the pre-made decorations on before he comes in with a plate, knife and fork! icon_lol.gif

Last week I did a plain cake, I had made a little cake from leftover batter that I sent to work with my husband. I really wanted to do something but my husband always complains that he never gets plain cake. icon_lol.gif

Sure! I leave my carrot cake, banana cake and ohers undecorated. I just add a few chopped nuts or swirl the top of the icing with a spoon.
