finally got my pictures back on a fire department retirement cake that I did for the 2nd.
Like to know what the experts here think. I have gotten rave reviews here at home - people have gone out of their way to come by and tell me how they liked the cake (I wasn't at the event).
What made this all the more special - was that fire fighters from New York were here for the retirement. Our community had adopted a fire department after 9-11. I was told that they were in awe of the cake.

Reason the comments from the people seems great - I was exhausted from this cake - I probly spent a total of 8 hours working on the emblem alone (after midnight hours). Even though it is a edible image. The print I was given to work with was a photo of the side of a truck - with back flash and blurring. When I scanned it, it had a blue hue to most of the white areas. So I worked in Paint and cleaned the whole thing up pixel by pixel. But the compliments that I got about the emblem made it all worth it. In fact, Phil refused to cut the emblem - so that piece of cake was left over icon_lol.gif I was so glad I had taken the extra time.

You did an awesome job. The little details are so cute and the emblem looks great. I hate trying to clean up pictures on the computer. I make my husband do it. icon_lol.gif

That is one awesome cake.! You deserve all the kudos that were given to you. The reason that the fire fighters appreciated what you did is because you took the time to make something that they have a love for. Sometimes their work goes unappreciated.

yes the boots, ax, and hydrant and hose ends are all gum paste. The helmet is rice crispies covered in fondant. It is an exact replica of his helmet. Was able to have another fireman get me into the fire house and show me his helmet without him knowing - his wife wasn't for sure what color his was or the exact shape.

Everyone - thank you for the comments - showed the pics to co-workers and just got "oh - that's cute"

Wow, now that's impressive!! Awesome job! I can see why the emblem took so long to do (had to do what you did for an edible image on cookies - go into Paint and clean it up pixel by pixel). I can sympathize, or even empathize.

BTW, Bethola, I guess you really, really like this cake, huh? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif
