Okay.... I am freaking out a little bit and need some reassurance. I have read many post about using vinyl tablecloths as cake board covers. I have bought a red checked vinyl tablecloth with felt backing to cover a picnic cake board. Is this safe to put the cake on? It smells a little vinyl like, will this smell absorb in the cake? Please and suggestions. I am working on baking the cake right now. Thanks

You could cover the board with your table cloth, then cover that with clear contact paper. You'd get the look, plus feel more secure. I don't believe the table cloths are "food safe", but I know I have used them in the past with no ill effects.

Thanks so much. I was in such a hurry posting this I don't know how I got this under the cookie category. I think I will run and get some contact paper just to be sure.

When ever I cover a cake board with anything other then Foil, I always put a clear contact paper over it to ensure it's food safe as well as easy to clean and reuse icon_smile.gif

"technically" contact paper isn't food safe either. However, I use it because it is water and grease proof. It is much better than plain vynal tablecloth.
