You can start making them now and keep them in a container on the counter top. Make sure it is a cool and dry location where there is not sunlight. Sunlight can cause the color to change.

I store mine in the pantry in a "pizza box". I bought them at my local pizza restaurant for .50 each (Godfathers Pizza). I have lots of royal icing flowers that I keep in several pizza boxes for future use.

Okay, silly question...for those of you who make the flowers in advace; do you make all white roses and then use a luster dust or shimmer dust, etc. to color them or do you make a bunch of different colors? Also, I have never worked with royal before so are the roses edible or too hard to try to eat?

Hi: You color the royal icing like you color the buttercream icing. Once you start using royal icing you'll use it forever. You could eat the royal icing but it is usually used for just decorations. Try it you'll love it. Vicki0052.

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR ANSWERS. I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION BUT I DON'T KNOW IF I SHOULD START A NEW THREAD OR NOT. I WILL GO HERE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. WHAT COLOR SHOULD I ADD TO THE BUTTERCREAM ICING INORDER TO GET IT OFF WHITE OR IVORY? THAT IS WHAT THE BRIDE WANTS AND I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO ADD TO GET IT THAT WAY. IS THERE AN IVORY COLOR GEL OR PASTE THAT I CAN ADD TO IT? THANK YOU.

I don't know if Americolor makes Ivory (I presume they do) but I have the Wilton Ivory. Add just a tiny bit at a time until you get the color you want. If you add too much, you could end up with a more brown color. Plus, icing color deepens as it sets.

Depending on the size of your flowers depends on the drying time. Small drop flowers should dry within a day or less, roses a few days. Lilies the same. I usually let roses or lillies dry for 3 or 4 days or even more depending on the weather. I don't usually make royal roses though as I do them no matter what BC recipe I use. (Even my all-butter recipe stands up to roses.)

i have just discovered royal icing and am going crazy making up a ton of flowers ahead of time so i can just stick them on with icing. i keep them in a air tight container on my counter. 6 month shelf life but someone here told me up to 10 years ! LOL. I just make a batch in the evening, make an assortment of flowers, let them dry and put them away the next day. i love having the "flower stash"!!! i used them to make this cake last night:

NICE JOB ON THE CAKE. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP. I WASN'T SURE IF WILTON MADE IVORY OR NOT. I WILL HAVE TO LOOK NEXT TIME I AM IN THE CANDY AND TOBACCO STORE SINCE THEY CARRY WILTON PRODUCTS THERE AND THEY ARE CHEAP. I CAN'T WAIT, ABOUT 25 MINUTES FROM WHERE I LIVE, AC MOORE IS ALREADY THERE AND THEY ARE PUTTING MICHAELS IN RIGHT NEXT DOOR. I KEEP READING ON HERE HOW MICHAELS HAS A LOT OF THINGS I CAN'T WAIT. MAYBE BY THE END OF AUGUST IT WILL BE OPENED!

Yes, Wilton does have ivory. They should have it at the craft store.
