What are the requirements for AL? Any kind of information is helpful. Do I have to have a separate kitchen? Can I have pets? etc......

Thanks

The rules have changed as of Jan of this year for Tenn home bakers. it is actually easier now to get licensed. you have to take a food safety course that is $100 (reasonable) andhave to have your home inspected. I called and asked about some of the rules and the kitchen DOES NOT have to be closed off from the rest of the house .. they told me thatIF the kitchen has a door it must be closed while baking, however if there is no door then it doesn't realy matter they are lenient in that rule. you have to have a separate fridge for nothign but your baking stuff and they told me that it CAN be in the garage so long as it is not near any harmful materials and your garage is kept clean, I also think they said you cannot keep your car in teh garage if you choose to have the fridge in there (not a big deal for us as we don't park the car in there anyway). as for the utensils I don't recall seeing that in teh rules however I am sure once going through the food safety course they will say somethign to that effect. It seems reasonably easy to get licensedhere in TN and they seem very willing to work with you on getting there.
Here is a link to the rules

I think you meant to say cat instead of car!

Yep, I'm sure I did! icon_lol.gif I didn't even go back to check. I used to be a pretty good typist (was a secretary in NYC for four years), but lately my skills are slipping and my carpal tunnel is getting worse - go figure.

BTW, I had to laugh also when I saw your screen name. I don't remember if it was this thread of another one where I mentioned that my in-laws have a dog whom sheds worse than my three cats combined. There's hair - actually fur - in everything! I can always find at least one piece in at least two dishes of food! Anyway, the dog's name is Wolfie! icon_wink.gificon_rolleyes.gif

but it seems to be a pretty common thing, not to be able to have pets.

I am also in NC and was told that an inspection was only needed if I was planning to sell to retail restaurants and bakeries. Otherwise, all I needed was a general business license.
