I'm making my first fondant figures this weekend, I've been looking at all of them that I can on CC ~ question, how do most of you make their hair?

I have to make 2 little girls that have blondish hair, one with pigtails the other down and a tad shorter than shoulder length.

Another question, do you use the writing pens to draw their eyes and mouth with and how do you blush their cheeks?

Any help/suggestions would be EXTREMELY greatful

Most of the time for hair, I use the sugargun, it has a disc that is really great for fine (long or short) hair. Otherwise for girls with long hair you could also use royal icing (very stiff), cut a triangle out the bag and pipe it, it will give the hair swirls.

For the blush for the cheeks I use pink petal dust of pink lustre dust.

I don´t use writing pens but paint the eyes and mouth, you can have a look at this tutorial for eyes etc. http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopic-reply-335103.html

Goodluck!

There are a few different ways of doing hair. Sometimes you can pipe royal icing in strands, to create long or short, straight or wavy/curly hair.

Another way to do it is to pinch small balls of your paste and roll them into small sausages, then place them on the head for hair.

Along the same lines as that one, you can put your paste in a sugar gun or even a garlic press and force it out, so it looks like hair, then just attach it.

The other way I can think of is to make a ball (size varies depending on what you need) and squash it, then you just lay it on the head and it is like a man's short haircut. You can make texture with a toothpick or even a fork or whatever. I have done this for pigtails, you cover the head with the squashed ball to resemble the hair pulled back, then get the sugar gun or your rolled sausages or whatever, gather them together and make the pigtail(s).

With the whole painting the face thing, I am so hopeless with that, so I won't give you any bad advice there!!! thumbs_up.gif

Well I just finsihed my first fondant person. I am not going to even try to give advice on how to do the faces...once I post the pic of mine you'll see why icon_rolleyes.gif

The hair I had to ad lib on. I didn't at the time have a large grass/hair tip or a clay gun (got the tip last night though still without clay gun). So I used my garlic press if you can belive it to do the hair...the added bonus is my fondant figure is now safe from vampires thumbs_up.gif

Here's my very first person in gumpaste. Basically I did what many of the previous posters suggested. The eyes are a combo of more gp and "paint" (food gel coloring and water).

edited: with the three pictures in one I can't post it. Just check out my photos.
