I've never made or tried to decorate a cake with Whipped Cream Frosting/icing before. Is it the same as you would do with the buttercream?

Also, has anyone made buttercream with margarine or butter? I've only used the crisco shortening but was curious about using margarine.

Somewhat new to the whole decorating thing!

I've used whipped cream a lot (some pics in my album) you just have to be careful because the heat from your hands melt the icing a lot quicker.

You can definetly use butter in buttercream (hence the name icon_wink.gif ) I don't think people recommend margarine because it's too soft, and never really hardens. I think if you wanted to just ice a cake (no decorations just ice) it would be ok, but I would say it would be a good idea to decorate with it.

HTH

I used margarine in mine, only because it was late, all I had in fridge, etc... it was a lot more "yellow" and didn't seem to crust the same, but, overall taste was no different. It did crust, eventually, just took a lot longer. HTH!
