A surface smeared with shortening is much better.

I've seen other posts where some roll out between two sheets of plastic that they bought at Walmart or Joann's. I haven't tried it yet but it seems to work for them!!

I just covered a cake this week in chocolate fondant and I used the plastic from Walmart fabric dept. and used nothing on it. It came off perfectly.

hmmm, what is this plastic? What does it look like? Do you recall what it was called? I want/need some!

It is the tablecloth plastic on the rolls, it comes in different colors and thicknesses. I bought the clear, probably medium to thicker thickness. I washed it off with soap and water and then wiped it down with bleach water to be sure it was nice and clean.
