i, myself is a decorator (though still learning)..i get more excited decorating than baking..i don't feel comfortable when i'm baking coz i'm scared that it will not taste good or something..see, i never had any experience with baking..i do not know what makes the cake more dense, moist (though i just found out that sour cream and pudding mix can do the job) i am always stressed when baking, unlike when i'm decorating, i feel relaxed (unless there's a deadline) and it's like therapeutic..i admire those who can bake perfect cakes and also do amazing jobs at decorating it..
I guess I'm a little of both. I never worry about a cake tasting good because I have good recipes for box mixes. ![]()
I also make a lot of other baked goods (bread, rolls, cookies, pies, etc.) so baking I can do. But decorating can be stressful and I certainly don't come close to doing any of the amazing cakes I have seen in the gallery here. So I guess maybe more baker than decorator. ![]()
I like both. I get a kick out of trying new recipes. If they pass the - FAMILY - test they stay. Decorating is tough on me because I have carpal tunnel and arthritis, but I love to create so I bear through it. ![]()

Decorator...because I'm not that great of a baker, but I'm learning to make moist cakes. Love decorating 'cause I have a natural knack for it, and it's fun squishing goopy stuff out of a plastic bag! ![]()

Baker first decorator second. I could always bake great tasting things but the looked bad! I took Wilton 1-3 and have improved in decorating a lot luckily and now enjoy it almost as much as baking! I am amazed at the flowers and things I learned and am looking forward to the gum paste class they will have soon!
I don't like to bake.........but decorate I Love! I wish I had someone to do all of the baking so I could do nothing but decorate!
I am both. I offer desserts also in my business. I love baking also.
Of course, I am very concerned about the taste, but my first love is decorating.

I am both ... I love to bake and to decorate. My family has become my taste kitchen and my husband says that his weight problem is my fault because everything I make is so good ... I think it's just because he eats everything!!! lol
When it's a decorated cake, I like to spend my time and energy on the decorations. I wish I had a little helper who did the baking and the mixing of the icing - from then on, it's mine! But when I'm making something that's not decorated - I love to bake. Does that make sense? Like eclairs, or a complicated chocolate torte, etc. And I think I could make cookies all day - ten kinds!!
I also started baking as a young child. I love to bake and decorate, but having a full time job makes it difficult. Sometimes I come home from work start on a cake, etc., and may not get to bed until the early morning hours. I can't do this too often to hard on the body. I hope to become as good as you all in my decorating skills.
Both, I love to bake and decorate. Really good at the former, getting better at the latter. My business is for all kinds of desserts so just being in the kitchen baking is good for me! My DH says that I have a knack for good stuff!

Now am both baker and decorator...
growing up I was the baker and my grandma would decorate... we self taught each other but I would always bake for her. after she past away I did both.. 15 years ago I lost all my cake supplies and did not have the heart to start again until this year.
Have always wanted to take wilton classes but am unable to find any that are interpreted. Finding CC has been a wonderful blessing for me. Have learned many new things and always willing to try something new at least once....
baker, baker, baker.
I have only decorated a few things, took the wilton 1 course mostly to do bday cakes for my kids. I'm getting interested in cookie decorating but again, just for the kiddos.
to be honest i'm a bit of a baked goods snob and i think that as AMAZING as many decorated cakes look, buttercream made with crisco and fondant just don't taste that good, nor does royal icing. if it's taste i'm going for, I'd rather take the time and detail work to make dainty little pecan tartlets or linzer tarts or dipped french butter cookies than to perfectly ice a batch of no-fails! (by the way i think the no fails taste better un-iced!)
both now...grew up baking and enjoy making delicious desserts...but decorating now is something I really enjoy and hopefully am getting better and better at...the orders are rolling in, so I must be doing something right. Of course, I'm one who took the classes not for selling cakes but for bday cakes for my kids...hmmmm I wonder how this happened. not going to complain...at least not yet ![]()

I consider myself both! I love to bake and I love decorating (I now teach the Wilton Method at Michaels - and I love it so much, I still forget to get my paychecks!) I have baked for 30+ years now, gingerbread houses are something I love to do - I just really enjoy all aspects of cooking, baking and decorating......EXCEPT the dishes. ![]()
I'd say I'm both. I love to bake, either from scratch or doctored cake mixes (which I've been leaning towards more lately), because I like to EAT IT!!!! lol Decorating is so fun and relaxing for me, but the worst part about the whole thing is WAITING for the cake to cool enough for me to level the tops (for a taste test, of course!) and put the whole thing together.
