I can see them. I think they're really cute! Don't be so hard on yourself! I don't know whether making their faces a bit longer might make a difference, but I think once you get their wings on it will probably change their whole look.

Woot there they are=) I have to agree with the pp, they are cute=) The only thing I think you are noticing, is the faces are really round. I bet if they were a little longer, you would be happy with em=) Great job on them though!! Jen

ok...everybody get your stones ready to throw at me....but spotty you know I would never be anything less then a 100% honest with you.....they are looking a little surprised...and umm queenish icon_confused.gificon_eek.gificon_lol.gif

I love their little dresses! very cute.

but to 'fix' them....this is what I would do...

if youre using the wilton fondant ...I noticed when I use it..... its too soft so i work on it with cornstarch which seems to help it get firm but yet keep its soft texture ( if that makes sense!)

first the legs and arms look too soft....try re-doing them molding them and bending them in the position you want ...then ...I'll take a toothpick and press the side of it on the hand to make a thumb...(I dont usually make it look like a real hand...but some do)... then let them sit while you make her face...it gives them a step up on drying and wont start to "melt" once attached.... .......then attach them thumbs_up.gif

also dont attach the head right away,( in fact I always attach it last) ...it will start to "sink"....you may want to put a toothpick through her torso and through the rock she is sitting on....leave a little sticking out up top to attach the head...dab it with vodka/extract first....

I havent used the face molds ..but theyre cute! i would kill some of those eyes lashes....? icon_eek.gif maybe give her three at the corner/top of her eyes and maybe give her eyebrows? and maybe tone down their street walker lipstick icon_lol.gif

I think the flowers on their heads need to be a little smaller...and the lighter brown hair needs more hair...it looks too flat on the top

please please dont hate me!!! Im just trying to help! thumbs_up.gif

I think they're cute, but they do have a drag queen look about them. I think if you just tone down their makeup, though, they'd be fine. Not so many eyelashes, and maybe a paler lip color.

Other than that, I think they're great. Better than anything I've done. icon_smile.gif

i have no idea how to make fairies, but when i imagine a fairy i don;t see them with long hair it has to be short above the shoulders and also i think they need shoes preferably high heels if u know how to make them or if its even possible to make them

OMG I am laughing so hard at this post. First I saw the photos and thought they were cute then I read the post and read drag queen fairy and I could not stop looking at them and laughing.

No advice for you from me as I've never made them but thanks for the laugh. You made my day.

Maybe a bit of a bigger nose so it's more noticable and evens out the faces? I have no idea how to make fairies and I haven't even tried but I really love yours! Great job!

I agree, they are cute... but possibly not the look you were going for.... as some pp's have mentioned, the "makeup" could be toned down - especially the eyelashes... like they say in anything fashion based -- "less is more"... and for the shape of the face, it would say that what you were working with was too soft... you need a much stiffer base to work with otherwise it will "sag"... and if you wait for the head to set a bit before attaching this will keep the shape nicer too...

but for a first attempt very well done... everyone needs a starting point and now u know what to do differently next time.

i mean what did you apply it with? do you think maybe an edible marker would give it a better look? just a though. I use americolors markers, they are thin and great.

i don't wear make up either. icon_wink.gif

They are cute but they do remind me of the Bratz dolls. More hooker looking than fairy...jmo.. they need smaller lips and finer hair...

hahah... hooker fairies! too funny... i agree... the hair really jumped out as not quite right... and the lips too... but they are getting there... and besides, if you like them, thats all that matters - beauty is (after all) in the eye of the beholder!

The first ones look like the sugarpaste might be too soft. That's a guess since I've never used it myself. The secons ones look like the brat dolls. Both are cute. Keep practicing, they're getting better!

First let me say that your fairies look much better than my first attempts at what turned out to be stoned looking ....

I think if you change their eyes...I would enlarge the iris/pupil part of their eyes...so make the blue part larger so there isn't as much white showing...then I would make a fairly large pupil so only a bit of the blue was showing..if you want to have a bit of "light and life" to them, take a toothpick and dip it in white colouring and touch the toothpick to the same place on both eyes..if you don't , they will look cross-eyed or like they have a wandering eye..pick say the upper right side of the pupil.

For the mouth, what I would do is take a fine paintbrush and dampen it very slightly...just stroke over the part where you want the mouth to be and go over and over...you will see that the paintbrush will start to make an intentation in the fondant...when it looks like you have a mouth shape, leave it to dry.
Once dry, what I do is mix chalk with powdered sugar and take a soft brush and dust on some pink mix to the cheeks..the sugar helps the colour go on smoother and less patchy..more subtle..I would take a dry but finer brush and do the same pink in the inside of the mouth...some will get on the outside looking a bit like lips...you can add a very fine amount of past for the bottom lip but don't do anything for the top.

Less eyelashes and a little more whispy and curvy at the outer edges of the top..nothing on the bottom..

Anyhow, these are just suggestions that I think will help you. I have a few examples of fairies and faces in my cakes photos as examples if you are interested as examples..

The body and dresses are great...I think with a few small improvements they will be very sweet looking!

I think that they are great for first attempts. I made a fairy (first time) using a headc mold and I worked on her face a bit more with modelling tools to give definition. I also think yours need to have necks, that, to me, is what's making them look óff'more than anything else, and maybe finer hair - but as I said they are great for first attempts!

The cake turned out great. As for the fairies, The hair looks too thick and too straight (dredlocks for Jamaican Fairies). I think maybe if the hair had some curl with different lengths it would soften the look of the fairies. I would have added eyelids and done a couple of lash curls at the ends of the eyes. The lips need to be thinner and not such a bright color. The face of the fairy needs to be thinner (I picture a fairies face like Tinkerbell). I love the dresses they are so cute.
