I have FINALLY decided on my fair cake design that will be due this saturday. the problem is I needed edible pearls and now its too late to order any. Is there any alternitive that I can do to make faux pearls??? Could I color gel and use the round tip to make balls????? HELP!!!!

You can use a #12 and cut them and roll them out of MMF. They dry pretty fast and then roll them in some luster dust. It really is a quick process, I do them while watching TV! This will give you a uniform size, they are about an 7/8mm this way.

Royal icing can be piped to look like pears around the base of the cake. I found that piping from the side minimizes the peak on the top of each pearl. When it is dry, you can dust it with pearl dust CAREFULLY to avoid getting pearl on everything.

Don't forget to roll your fondant out inbetween two BBQ skewers. That will make sure the fondant is all the same thickness, and your pearls will all be the same size. Good luck.
