My bil has came up with this idea for inmates to order cakes from me I would send them to there loved ones. Is this do-able? If so how and what would you package it in to ship safely? I was thinking stick to 6in round and the 7 in oval w / buttercream icing and filling. looking for all wisdom and advice and ideas . thanks

Maybe ship frozen in a styrofoam cooler like those steak companies do?

Good luck!

I THINK THAT THECAKEMAKER HAS HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. YOU WOULD HAVE TO FREEZE THEM AND PACKAGE THEM LIKE STEAKS. THAT WAY THE CAKE WOULDN'T GET CRUSHED.

Another idea - you might also try asking one of these mail order cake places - just inquire as to how they ship their cakes like you are interested in one maybe...

If you ship air the airlines offer a counter to counter service. There is also a site online that ships decorated cakes in tins. They look like they're baked in the tin and then just decorated on top (with an edible image I think).

You've got guts! I would be too paranoid to ship cakes for inmates( what if there was a disagreement over prices, or something happened to the cake in shipping)! Not the kind of person I would want mad at me.
