Let me first just say--- NIGHTMARE!!!
I went to the Elegant Fondant Project class at Michaels last night. Where did they get this instructor from??? No offense to anyone but omg!
This was supposed to be a 2 hour class this Sunday and a 2 hour class next Sunday and we are supposed to learn how to do vibrant blooms, draping and make this beautiful cake.
Well, this lady really did not want to be there!! There was only 2 people in the class. She had us make 1 flower! 1! Just 1!!!! And, she went ahead of both of us students and made her flower without waiting to see if we understood or anything! What was that about? The rest of the time she talked about a class she is doing on doll cakes. While we are sitting there still trying to figure out how to make this flower.

Anyway, I went home and she said we have to bring 15 of these things for next week. So, I just kind of winged it.

So, my question is..... Did I do them right???? I made all 15 without knowing if it is correct or not.

Right or wrong these are very pretty. How did you do them?

Too bad about the instructor though. You might want to talk to Michaels and tell them you were not impressed and see if they will refund at least some of your money back. I don't understand why people teach when they aren't interested in the students learning lots. Guess it is the money. Sorry to hear about the bad instructor but your flowers are very pretty.

It was kind of like doing the rose. I cut out the large blossom, used the ball tool thing on the edges, put the slits in each side, put it on the thick foam, pressed the ball tool into each petal and the middle, then turned it over onto a foil bon bon cup. Did 2 large blossoms for each flower.

Then did the same with ivory fondant and with the medium blossom. But, only did one of these per flower.

Then I put one large one inside the bob bon cup, put vanilla in center and took another large blossom and rotated it so the petals were in the other direction then the first. Put more vanilla.

Then took the medium blossom and put that inside of the other 2 also in a different direction for the petals.
Then took a little ball of white fondant and put that in the middle of the whole thing and added the stamens.

Does that sound right?

I don't know if it is the correct way of doing it but thats how I did it.

I think I may have to say something to them because I cannot believe that i paid for this and am not getting to learn what I need.

I have never had any other problems with taking the Wilton courses or the instructors.

Ok, she's not a good teacher, although your product is very impressive.

Since there are only two students get right up there- almost in her face- when she does her demonstraion and ask questions. I don't mean be nasty, but be agressive. Most people are not naturally good at teaching, but can open up to students who are really interested. Since she was talking about her doll cake, that's where her brain was not with you and those flowers. The trick is to get her focused in a positive way on you and what is going on in that room. Positive, positive, positive! Walk in there pleased and enthused about what you are going to learn next. Yes, I know that's the teacher's job; but if she doesn't do it, you do it. You might be surprised. Tell her a joke when you walk in or a funny story. Whatever, create a happy space that she will want to be a part of.

I will try that. (even though she is not the joking type!) She is just very serious and does not even crack a smile!

I tried to make a joke about the fondant when we were trying to get it workable and she just gave me this look. Kind of made me feel like a turtle or something and I wanted to just go back into my shell.

Oh Well! At least this will be my version of the flowers! icon_biggrin.gif

Hopefully I'll be able to learn the draping next week, She might just fly by that too! icon_cry.gif

They look good but if you feel the instructor was not good you need to complain. Was this a Wilton class or just something Michael gave, you will need to complain to gave the class. If it is a Wilton one, then you will need to complain to Wilton and you should get a full refund if the class was not up to what it is suppose to be. Wilton likes to know this stuff.

This was a Wilton class. It was Called Elegant Fondant.
So would I then call Wilton and not the Michaels Store?

As a student it's your job to let the instructor know if you understand what she's doing. If you don't let her know that you are not following then she will assume that you understand. As an instructor it's her job to be professional and teach in a professional manner. That means focusing on the reason why she's there and making sure her students are getting what they paid for.

Just politely inform her that you would prefer if you could focus on the class you paid to learn however you would be more than happy to hear more about her other class when you understand what you are doing.

She is being paid to do a job...her job is to teach you and your fellow students...she is getting paid to do a job she is not doing. It's not fair to you or the others in her class. You really should bring this to someone's attention or she is just gonna keep getting away with this. BTW...those flowers a gorgeos!!! thumbs_up.gif Maybe you should be teaching this class! icon_lol.gif

I am going to try to say something to the instructor at the next class. Hopefully she will not jump down my throat. She had asked me where I lived and when I told her, she said oh, you live by norrige, why do you come so far? I said norrige is no where near where i live, she said yes it is I am in that area all the time. She was going to argue with me about where I Live!!!! I mean I have only lived there for 30 years. I thought I knew where it was! icon_confused.gif

Anyway, I would love to teach the class!!! At least the students would learn something!! icon_biggrin.gif
