Hello all!
I really hope this is not going into an inappropriate forum and please tell me if I shouldn't even be writing this here.
I am looking for feedback on the Cabbage Soup Diet, the good, the bad and the ugly!!
Has anyone here tried it? Did it work for you? Any pointers?
Thanks!!

I did the cabbage soup diet about 10 years ago. Or should I say I tried to do the cabbage soup diet. About 2 weeks into it I got really sick. I'm not really sure why because basically I was eating nothing but veggies, but it made me feel extremely ill. When I went off of it I was fine. So I think I was deprived of something that I needed. Basically all the diets work until you go off of them and then you gain the weight back. You have to change the way you eat forever. Not just for a little while. If you eat right and exercise the weight will come off. I just recently had to change my eating habits because I was just diagnosed with hypoglycemia. I can't eat things like white bread, pasta, sugar, and fried foods. I have to eat lots of protein, whole grain stuff, artificial sweeteners, etc...Unfortunately I have to eat this way forever. Since eating this way I have lost 6 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks without exercising. So I'm going to start walking to help my weight loss along. Plus I feel better. I never realized how many carbs I ate before until I actually had to limit them. The bad thing is if I wouldn't have been diagnosed with this I would still be eating horribly. It was the push I needed to get me in the right direction. Well I hope whatever you try works out for you. Just be safe when doing it. Good luck!
Hi ruralepicure! JoAnneB is right of course (sigh...). But that being said, it is a good one for getting weight off in a hurry for a special occasion. I've done it a couple of times and had fantastic, though short lived, results. I'm assuming you're talking about the cabbage soup diet that's done for one week? The most I've lost doing this (no cheating) is 12 pounds. Takes tremendous will power and you should not drink alcohol during or for a few days after doing the diet. During the diet, a bathroom near-by is a must
. That's about all I have to offer on the subject except that of course, as we all know, it's not a permanent solution... Darn it all anyway

I was on it probably 20 years ago. I did lose but I had terrible heartburn and nausea. I gave up on it after about 10 days. As I recall it originated from Loma Linda hospital in California. I agree about diets, the whole solution to weight control is eating a balanced diet and in average proportions, as natural as possible, and that means for the rest of your life. Along with exercise.
Okay hon, forget that!!!! It's NOT good for you to limit yourself to one type of food! Of course you will get sick. Try Weight Watchers. It's great because you can eat what ever you want!!! It's all about portion control. Also calories in, calories out. Use your energy. Good luck girl! ![]()

I remember my mom trying it when I was a kid (along w/ a ton of other fad diets). None of them really worked. She'd lose maybe 10 pounds and then put it all right back on, plus five or 10 more. It's really bad for you to yo-yo diet. The best plan is to just eat healthy and in moderation and to get plenty of exercies. You have to change the way you live!
PS-I also remember her saying the cabbage soup made her really gassy.
the only thing I know is that cabbages are good for hemmroids. But considering that other people have gotten sick on the diet it probably isn't a good idea. I have had success in the past with the southbeach diet. Yesterday I tried a lemonade diet, made it to 2pm. That didn't go so well. Good Luck! We are here for you.
Like others, I did this about 15 years ago. It was fast weight loss, but it was also fast return. I didn't keep the weight off at all, but it helped me fit into an ugly as sin bridesmaid dress. It wasn't so bad because I kept thinking of vegetable soup, but you know, I was so sick of that crap by the time I quit that I don't think I can ever look at veggie soup the same way again.
I've had a lot of success with a modified Adkins / South Beach thing, and it's stayed off.
