So I need to rant about some things totally unrelated to cakes. We had a fire in our home almost 10 weeks ago. A fish tank heater caught on fire and the whole second floor was damaged. My husband and 2 1/2 yr old have been living in our living room. Today the plumbers finally came to do the bathroom. We needed a new shower and new tub surround. I have been very patient in that it has been forever already. My gracious mother has been here most of the time for repairs so my husband and I can work. The plumbers stayed till 6 and left a huge mess. Dirt, dust, chunks of wood, nails, screws, garbage bags. I am so frustrated. Thank you all for listening. I am running low on patience. I just can't wait till it is done.

I'm sorry you have having such a rotten time. At least you and your family are safe. But, that is fairly typical for contractors. A huge mess!

Good luck!

Thank goodness no one was hurt! I'm so sorry for all you've been through. I have to say that I was equally peeved at contractors that we dealt with not too long ago. We recently built a new home / business (still not completely finished but now we're down to tiny details). Anyway, the drywall guys left a HUGE mess. We were having flooring installed and there were nails, screws, drywall chips and dust, and drywall mud EVERYWHERE! NOT TO MENTION the half empty soda cans and big gulp cups, cigarette butts (in my new HOME!) and chewing tobacco cans. And the weekend before the flooring was to go in, WE had to go through and clean it all up! Totally infuriated me, especially the fact that they used the house as a their own personal dump. AND THEN, when they came back to do more drywall work they didn't bother to tarp the floor or surfaces like the sinks and showers. Dry wall mud was flung everywhere. It comes off with some good elbow grease but it totally makes me mad that I had to scrape chunks of drywall mud off of my brand new flooring. I even found a few random bits on the CARPET and that does NOT clean up as easily. There does not seem to be any pride in finish work anymore.

Sorry to go off. I can just SO relate to how you feel!

Sympathise completely with you. When my brother's house was being built the contractors made free use of the kitchen appliances which had been all brand new up to that point - he told them he wasn't having second hand goods seeing as he was being charged for new and got them all replaced!!

Look, when we were building a house, our stucco guy ended up arrested at the airport with a suitcase full of marijuana. Talk about messes. I would have much rather swept behind him than have to deal with half-applied stucco and a construction deadline. lol

I'm glad your family escaped the fire safely. I'm sure it's a mess, but just imagine how your new bathroom will one day look.

Ugh I'm sorry, but so glad no one was hurt. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to see such a mess each day but hopefully it will be finished soon and you will have a lovely bathroom

I just really wonder where the pride of workmanship has gone. It really isn't as present as it used to be. Look at how homes were built 50+ years ago vs. how they're built today. Look at your parents / grandparents who have had appliances longer than you've been alive. How many appliances in your house will last half that long? It's sad. I can't imagine leaving someone else's house trashed after having worked on it. Cleaning up after yourself isn't that hard to do and if they knew they were responsible for their own messes, I guarantee they wouldn't be so careless and messy in the first place!
