Hola!!
I wanted to tell you, the last BCT that I did.. The flag cake in my Photos.. I bought a picture frame from walmart.. those cheap ones... 8x10 for 2.00.. and i took out the glass from it and used that! it worked great!!
Hey, momof3, I read in one of my books that you can also use glass to make impressios on your cake, like for delicate flowers or embroidery type work.....you trace the pattern on the glass with royal icing, let it dry and then gently imprint it on your cake and you have a pattern there to go by so you don't have to do things freehand...kind of works like the impression things people use for words......I thought it was a really cool technique.

wow! that is an awesome idea!!! thanks!
Just wanted to say, if you experiment with real glass, not plexiglass, try freezing the glass on its own in a bag. That way, if it shatters, you will not waste a buttercream transfer on it nor will it shatter inside of your freezer. Be extra cautious when using regular glass, sometimes it will just shatter after freezing just fine several times. Likely because there is a weakness or fault somewhere in the glass and the freezing causes this fault line to break.
Haha, and why do I know this? Because my brother-in-law had a fit when I told him I was going to use regular glass in the freezer. Not all real glass is created equal either, some would handle freezing, some would not. Needless to say, it resulted in him having a piece of plexiglas cut for me, haha!
Make sure that all of your sides are well ground so as not to cut yourself, a glass cut hurts!

In case you DO use a piece of glass here's a suggestion: I've been using a piece of glass for another purpose, and to protect myself from getting cuts from it, I covered the edges all the way around with duct tape. (It wraps around top, bottom and sides, and looks like a small frame on the glass.)

Walmart sells glass cutting boards. They are clear with rounded edges, and they are cheap!
Michaels sells rounded edge glass in frame sizes (8x10, 11x14, etc) precut and ready to use. I think my cost was less than $5.
