I keep reading that silicone mats are very helpful when rolling out fondant, and I'd like to get one. Any suggestions on where to buy at the best price? Thanks. Janice

If you can't find them at your local cake store you can order them from sugarcraft.com or many other on line stores.

I LOVE my silicone mats!! I use them mostly for rolling out my cookie doughs. I cut the shapes, freeze the whole tray for 10 minutes and pop out the firm shapes ready for the oven! Because you don't need any flour...you can roll the scraps again and again without the dough getting tough and nasty from excess flour.

Saves so much $$$

Janice, We have a couple kitchen outlet stores in our area and they both carry them.

Thanks a lot for your replies. The same theory of not adding flour to your cookies applies to adding powdered sugar or cornstarch to the fondant. Sounds like the silicone is the way to go!

I'll probably order from Sugarcraft, I'm in deep denial about knee replacement surgery and shopping is getting harder and harder for me to do!

Thanks again. Janice

Bed Bath & Beyond sells SilPat sheets, in 2 different sizes, ranging from about $20-35. I got mine on amazon.com, which was not a SilPat, but it works beautifully. Mine was $10 and its a 16"x11"(i think). Its called a Matfer Exopat.

Hi,
I found a set of two silicone mats at Wal-Mart for $9.99. They are in a box and sold by the rest of the silicone bakeware. They are red in color and I believe the sizes are 8.5 x 12.5 and 10.5 x 16. The brand name is ROSHCO.

I've been looking into getting some mats too and found something that I wonder if anyone else has tried. It's a small mat about the size of a post card, only square with different designs on them. They are with the clay making things at Michael's. I think it would work perfectly.

Anyone tried these? Sorry, I don't remember the maker's name of it.
