I'm so excited I just ordered a silver cake plateau, it is 16", can I put a 16" cake on it? Or would that look dumb? The cake will have no border, it will have ribbon on the bottom.

When you say "16 inch cake", do you mean the cake itself or the board the bottom cake is on? If your cake is on an 18 inch board (at least), it might not look right. Try it with a board and dummy to see if you like it.

Yes, the cake itself will be 16", and I would probably put a 16" cardboard circle under it, then the cake plateau.

I don't see a problem with this if you're not going to have a border around the bottom. Should look pretty nice.

I think it would look BETTER to not have such a big cake on it, but I am sure it could work.

I think it will look fine. I am wondering where you get this? It's time for me to invest in my own, also how mch $$ you spent?
Thanks!

...once you add the icing on the cake, you might be cutting it a bit close IMHO!

The icing layer on the cake will probably add another 1/2 inch on either side of the cake, so this will cause the cake to overhang the plateau somewhat.

It might be best to put a 14" cake on it, but you won't know until you try it with a 16" dummy or cake board to get any idea of how it will look.

I'm with MrsMissey and the others about the overhang... a cake baked in a 16" pan ends up larger than that once its all said and done - and your plateau is going to be a solid 16". Personally, I would put nothing larger than a 14" cake on it.
