I could use some help with my first batch of homemade fondant. I used Toba Garrett's recipe and it is getting dry and crumbly. I used cornstarch to roll it out on and shortening to keep it from sticking to me. Im not sure if it was the cornstarch or the heat in my house, or something else.
any ideas?
also, if I make fondant models do i let them air dry or put them in a airtight container?
thanks
Erin
Cornstarch is very drying and may be the problem. You may be able to add some moisture with damp hands and/or kneading in some shortening.
When you roll fondant, it is better to use a rolling mat of some sort and shortening on the surface rather than cornstarch or powdered sugar.
If you want to dry figures, you don't want an airtight container. Keep them out of draft and bright light (color canfade)
