How many cookies does it take to cover a 8 or 9 inch cake? i bought a can today and about died! They were $5.50 a can!
I thought that was pretty expensive. So anyway will one can do it or do I need to get another?
I just made one of those for the first time.
The cookies I bought came in boxes with about 28 cookies in each and I used less than two boxes to go around an 8" cake.
So, about 50 or so cookies.![]()
Yes, I agree with you on the price of those cookies. They are expensive. I am from Southeastern Ky and that's the price of them here also. I made a 9 inch cake and one can was not enough. The cake is in my photos. I just put a bow on the cake where I had run out of cookies. I am going to start checking out the dollar stores and hope I run into some there.
You should look into the Oriental food stores if you have any in your area. We have a large Oriental population here in Southern Cal, so there are many stores leaning towards that clientel.... anyway, they have what they call "Pockys" which is a rolled cookie. You might even try looking at Smart and Final if you have any near you. They sell the Peperidge Farm brand for about $5.00 for a huge can.
Pockys are a bit thinner -At least the ones that I have. They do carry them in Asian grocery stores. We also have a large Asian population here. I actually did a cake today. I did not use the pepperidge farm ones because they were so exspensive. Should have bought them because I went with the Archer Farm Brand from Target. They are not full cans but two packages inside the can. It took me one and half cans to cover a six inch cake. I even cut them in half.
I found them at Big Lots for $3.00. Don't know if you have one of these in your area, but they had the Fudge, French Vanilla, and Mint.
Thanks everyone. I didn't even think about looking at Big Lots, I'll have to try there next. I just went ahead and bought the one's at Wal-Mart because I was there and needed them for a friends birthday cake. So I guess price doesn't matter in this case. If it was for an order I would try to get them a little cheaper so I wouldn't have to pass the price onto the customer.
