I am trying to decide how to tier my cake (3 tiers), which I have to make in 2 weeks. I have a set of spiked pillars, and a set of hidden pillars. I don't know if I can get a 2nd set of spiked pillars in time, because I would have to order them. My husband likes a tall cake (our 25th wedding anniversary). I would just like suggestions on what to do. Should I try to buy another set of spiked pillars, or just stick with what I have? What is your favorite method for tiers?

In my opinion, spiked pillars are not stable over two tiers. they tend to move and can collapes under the third tier. Use hidden pillars, let them show and decorate them with ribbon, flowers, lace, fondant, whatever.

You can always check out Ms Bee's cakes in Speedway IN. She carries cake supplies that are from Country Kitchen. Or you could road trip to Ft. Wayne and visit Country Kitchen. It is an amazing store....

So far I have been afraid to do a tall tiered cake...just stack them on top of one another with dowels. I am a big wimp. But here's a bump for you!

Okay I obviously haven't done a lot of tiered cakes. What is the difference between Spiked pillars and hidden pillars? I have the "push" pillars that you push into the cake (anniversary cake in my photos) I got them for my Wilton 3 class, are those also known as spiked?

Your question got me curious as I've had a few Wedding inquiries as of late. TIA

If it were me, I would use the hidden pillars between the bottom two tiers, decorate them or hide them with flowers, etc. Use the spikes between the top two tiers, decorate or hide as needed for your design.

My first choice is stacked, but since dh wants it tall...

Hi, Fellow Hoosiers. I have heard great things about the place in Ft Wayne, but nothing about Ms Bee's in Speedway. Will have to check it out. Thanks.
