Ok..I am making my icing for my dd wedding cake (sat) and it is tasting grainy....what is wrong...why is it doing it. I am using high ratio shortening ...no butter since I can't put it in the fridge... help anyone???

What is your basic recipe? That would help figure out the problem.

I used 2 cup hi ratio shortening
4# powd sugar ( domino's 10x)
1-1/2 or there abouts cup milk
flavoring and salt.

Guessing here, but the sugar may not be fully dissovled. Wait a bit then re-stir it.

not sure about the grainy but you do not need to refridgerate if you use 1/2 butter or marg and 1/2 shortening... it will be fine and won't spoil now your filling may be a different story

well of course I have already made 3 double batches but will keep that in mind when doing other cakes...

What brand powdered sugar did you use? This only happened to me one time, when I used Target brand powdered sugar. icon_confused.gif

Beating your frosting at low speed for 5-10 minutes may help.
