Our friend is retiring and his wife said "Anything to do with Yankees"
So the quest begins. The saying is the hardest for me so cake ideas are great but saying to match the retiring part is what i need the MOST help with right now.

Any Ideas?
Maybe the saying will help me get the look for the cake??

ideas (finally) for the cake

> pair of tickets to a Yankee game resting next to the cap or on top of a jersey.

> replica of scoreboard and fireworks (Homerun!)
image: http://mlbplayers.mlb.com/mlb/photo/photogallery/season_2003/0611_astros_nohitter/09.jpg

> 3-D replica of stadium or edible image of it on cake.

> a big, big bat 3/ NY logo (great if it actually stood up like the "bat" outside the stadium does)

the brim is formed of fondant/gumpaste, using a real ball cap as a guide. The hat part is the cake its 1/2 a ball cake and a 6 inch round, slightly carved on the sides so that its not so round, iced in buttercream and the stitching is done with that little wheel tool that wilton puts out (the one with the interchangable wheels) just used the stitching one.

Oh and question on the hat! Aren't the yankees hats blue? I don't do sports much .

yes, hat is dark blue

and here's something cute.... a pillow! w/ the logo

http://www.sportsfanoutlet.com/cat.cgi?s="New+York+Yankees"&c=bedroom

(for some reason due line split, link won't work from here...have to copy/paste to browse address window)

he can lay his head down for a nap.

(could do a whole 3-d thing w/ him on couch, tv w/ game on it...etc.)

I'm not a Yankees fan (obviously LOL - that's like, blasphemy!)...but I know they make Red Sox hats in all colors - I have a pink one with a white B and a white one with a pink B...I've seen black NYY hats though...they even had green and purple (pastel shades) of Boston hats too...so I'm sure you could make it in any color you like. Although traditionally, they are navy with the white NYY on them.

Well Doug, First let me say the cake is for Doug our friend. How funny.
Now the 3 D sounds fun, but, I think I need a famous sketch.
I don't know where to start. Only 3 years into cakes and I'm still nervous about doing some of the 3D things.
But I would love to see what you could dig out of your file box of ideas!

I was told when i did the cake that there is an away hat and a home hat, One is white with navy blue writing, the other is navy blue with white writing.

But then again i really know nothing about baseball, and my boys are red sox's fans too.

sketches as requested.

couch is cut up sheet cake...solid base. large U for arms and lower part of back.. long narrow piece for top of back -- doweled for strength.

TV just squares of cake stacked

couch anc TV covered in your choice of BC or fondant.

rabbit ears...broken spaghetti stuck in cake, with icing blobs for base and little balls at end (unless you'd prefer to do fondant)

fondant rug, dog and man.

NY logo on screen.

could add newspaper on floor..sports section...'Yankees take pennant...Again!!!!" (or just to annoy the Red Socks fans --> Yankees sock Socs! or Yankees sack Socs! or Yankess Take Socs to Cleaners!")

Wow you are awsome! Well one more contact with his wife to find out her preferances and amount of cake needed. And then I'll make the decision.
Thanks again!

I did this cake for my uncle who is a HUGE Yankee fan as so am I and yes there is an "away" uniform and at home uniform. I get a lot of slack for living in Red socks Nation and being a Yankee fan, but I'll live. I guess it took The red Sock that many tries to do what the Yankees have done so many times WIN!!! (sorry Red SOcks Fans, I had to go there I am a brooklyn girl) I use the Wilton Sports set and it worked out fine. Sorry for the quality of the cake it is the very first cake that I ever did. But you can get the idea, It is in one of Wilton yearbooks, don't remeber which.

Good Luck

( I am very sorry but I can't seem to attach it to this mesage, you can look at my photos and see, it is of course the ball field. )
