nejiad was making these j-ello cakes. I don't think she would mind my sharing the recipe she gave me:
4 C milk
4 envelopes unflavored jello
2 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Put it all in a pan on the stove until hot - DO NOT boil. Pour into pan
and leave until set.
She then painted on the jello with food coloring gels
I haven't had the opportunity to try this yet but she said it "tastes delicious!"

I have admired nediad's jello cakes but I am still confused. 
Is the jello mixture posted the actual "cake" or is it the top layer like frosting you put on a baked cake? Thanks for any clarification.
Could you do this on an actual cake covered with a white fondant icing instead of on a jello cake? Say you took clear gelatin, colored it and thinned it out could you use that and paint effectively like the example jello cake above?
Please, oh, please tell me this could be done..
