I bought some dummie cakes yesterday to I could use them to practice on. I was wanting to practice mainly on getting my icing smooth. Is it a good idea to use the dummie cake to completely icing, and what is the best way to get the icing off of the dummie cake.

I use dummies for competition and for practice. You can wrap your dummie in plastic wrap first and then proceed to practice or if you are using a royal icing, I just run the dummie under HOT water in the sink and the icing melts right off. If you are just practicing borders and flowers, I don't see why you'd have to completely cover the dummie in frosting first as I've never had a problem with the frosting sticking to the dummie. Good Luck!

I boght mine at Dallas Foam Company. Only thing is you have to buy a $25.00 minimum. I was really pleased with their product and service.

Actually, their minimum for cake dummies is only $10. I called them a couple of weeks ago to find out about shipping. Their prices aren't bad, but their shipping more than makes up for it! I think their smaller box is $22 to ship if I remember correctly. When you factor in their high shipping, you may as well buy them from your local cake supply store.

In Canada you can buy them at Bulk Barn - and they're only a couple of dollars each!
