Business Is Starting! Woohoo!

Well..the word is getting out. A friend of dh's has a grandson getting married on Saturday...and his mother called me yesterday to order a groom's cake for THIS FRIDAY! 
Now I am happy to get the business...but why did they wait so late to order?! 
Do people not plan........sheesh!
I told her I would do it......She needs it by 5 pm FRiday. When I quoted her the cost..she did not bat an eye! 
I do not like 'last minute' so to speak..and not to mention that we are cooking/preparing all week for dh's parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary reception that we are hosting on Sunday, the 3rd of June. Egads! It's gonna be a wonky week.......baking 101! 
I might get some sleep, lol............
Also have gotten a call this morning for a birthday cake to be delivered to one of the local schools for one of dh's friends wives..she is gonna be 50! I love it!!! Thanking God for letting the ball get rolling.......those signs are helping too! I am getting asked for business cards........love it love it, love it!!! Better keep dh.........he's great for business!!!
Now to plan................. 
Glad your business is picking up. I can't believe that some people wait until the week of the wedding to order the groom's cake. That just seems silly to me.
wow a week before that is a late order, maybe they figure that's not as important as the main cake but still that's crazy. congrats on the business

isn't that sooo great when people call you for orders. as for waiting for the week of the wedding well I know in my family they don't use grooms cakes. it is just a cultural thing. so maybe they just thought about it last min. whoo knows but you have a great order whoo hoo for you
Good for you! It takes a while for people to shift to the mentality that we are not WalMart bakeries that can turn stuff out from frozen stock over night. In the meantime, invest in a bottle of No-Doz or some good coffee! LOL
Congrats on the business! 'Word of mouth' advertising starts a little slow sometimes, but once it gets going- look out! You'll be swamped!
Congratulations! I'm so happy your business seems to be "on it's way!" I have no idea why people wait so late either! I just took 2 wedding cake orders....one for July 1 and one for July 28th! I was in a position to take the orders, but geez, I had my cake booked VERY early!
Congratulations on your business countrycakes! I know what you mean when people call at the last minute for orders - I get calls all the time for wedding cakes 2 weeks before the wedding...I have learned to NOT laugh!
My other favorite is "you must have something in the freezer that I can have - can't you just whip it up for me for this afternoon?" 
Again, I've learned NOT to laugh...
