My little sister (25) went to sign up for the Army this morning, and got a positive on 3 urine tests. Went to the doc and had a blood test and it cake back negative. I told her to go by the blood test, but she's still worried because she had three +++ at the recruiting office. Anyone think she's ok, or should she retest?

Hmmmm...I looked a couple of things up and the urine and blood tests are supposed to be comparable unless the md does a quantitative test which measures the amount of pregnancy hormone in the system. You can get a false positive from medication but it is usually fertility drugs. I would wait a week and retest if she hasn't started. But in the mean time start taking pre-natal vitamins and eat healthy just in case!

That's what I told her. The doctor who did the blood test told her he's positive that she isn't preggers.

I came up positve on a home test a week before the blood test. I took 7 tests. 2 of them were digital. So I knew I was pregnate. Have her get another test from the doc in a week or so. Has she missed her period? My home tests were positve a week before I missed mine.

Home tests are more sensitive now. I, too, would retest after a week or so, with a blood test.
hope everything goes well. keep us posted!!

I have had that happen to me....I took 5!!! they all acme back positive. Well wouldn't ya know it I thought OMG when I started my period wet to the hospital thinking I was having a miscarrage and they told me I was NEVER pregnant. The doctor never took a blood test because they said the over the counter was reliable. Let me tell you when I thought I was pregnant with mmy son I skipped the drug store and went straight for the doctors for a blood test. Good luck icon_smile.gif

Blood test is more reliable than the home kit. Home kits can give you a false positive as well as a false negative. The kits could be factory damaged etc..

Please tell your sister to retest if she is in doubt.

Tell her to go home and study all night long...then retake the test.

Nothing like a good study partner!

HAHA Dale...you're too much!

I told her to get a two pack of her own and take one first thing Sunday morning, and one first thing Monday morning. She isn't suppsoed to start til Monday. We shall see! We all hope she isn't though. She's just not ready for a baby. She's single, the guy who WOULD be the dad isn't someone she would settle down with, just as she says, mess around with. She was singing up for the Army to straighten herself out and make a life for herself. Being an unemployed single mom isn't going to help that! Thanks everyone!

Wishing the best for your sister. icon_wink.gif

I've had a false positive from a home preg. test. That wasn't such a happy time for my dh... he was pretty bummed out when my period started the next day. Only happened once that way, but it was using a generic brand... I believe Equate. From then on out I only purchased EPT. I don't know enough about this to tell you how a false positive happens, but I know it can. I agree to wait and see if she's late, then take the home test.
