Awhile ago there was a post regarding people that were emailing for birthday cakes and wedding cakes. They were sending money orders or cashiers checks and then asking for their money back before the check cleared (bogus check). Here is the link for everyone to follow up on if you are unaware of this scheme.

Well, today I received a phone call from the internet relay service...
The person on the other line told me that she needed a cake for her birthday (June 28th - Thursday). Thought okay, not a problem. She then asked what my payment policy was. I explained it to her, thinking it was going to be a small order (since it was on a thursday night). I told her I only needed payment 1 week before the event. She then told me she would need a cake for 200 people. First I thought okay, 200 people on a thursday night? (something didn't sound right...)
Then I asked if she knew what kind of cake she was interested in. She asked if I had a website, then asked for my email address so she could let me know which one she liked. (She got my name off the internet, shouldn't she know that I have a website, since all the advertising online shows my website on it?) Then the kicker... she asked what payment of method I accepted. I told her cash, check or credit via pay-pal. She said do you accept cashiers checks or money orders? I prefer to pay with a money order? I told her no.... Then she said okay I will pay with a cashiers check. So, I asked where she lived: several minutes later: MN. Then I asked what town: again minutes later: my town. (I have used MN Relay service before and it should not take so long to anwer that unless you are searching online for what town I live in).
Anyway, I told the relay person... I am hanging up. This conversation does not seem right. And I hung up.
At this point I had already gotten her supposed name, where she received my name from and what town she lived in.
Her name: Holad Shina
Recieved name from weddingmanor.com
So, BEWARE.... They are now calling you on the phone with the internet relay service.
I've heard about this kind of abuse of the Internet Relay Service before. The operators know it's a scam, but their hands are tied by confidentiality guidelines.

With an apology in advance in case anyone on here is named 'Holad (I've led a sheltered life and not heard the name before)
Looks like the name could be an anagram for a rude word - am going to see if it is!!
Two questions....
1. What is the internet relay service?
2. Why won't you accept a money order?
The internet relay service is where someone can call you directly from their computer. They type in their questions, words and then an operator will relay their question to you in voice.
I don't accept money orders (for this customer) because of the stories I have heard. If someone is going to spend time getting a money order, then they can just give me all cash (especially if they live in the same town.) Mainly, I had a bad feeling about the call and I wanted to control the conversation to see where it would go.
I didn't know anything like that even existed! That's my new thing learned for today. ![]()
That makes sense, about the money order. So normally you might, but not in this case. Gotcha.
