For those of you who do gumpaste, where do you get your supplies from and the chalks you use...is it as in Crayola? icon_redface.gif Also, if using MMF, can you add gumtex and turn it into gumpaste? One last ?, compared to making flowers out of fondant, how hard and similar is it? Thanks!!! icon_wink.gif

I make my gumpaste. The chalks I buy from craft stores like michaels.

I think with practice you'll find working with gumpaste is easy. you can do a lotwith it.

Are they like Crayola chalks or some kind of food chalk? What aisle are they in at Michaels? Thanks!

The gumpaste recipe at Nicholaslodge.com is one of the best. Wilton is now packaging ready-made gumpaste. It helps to know what the stuff is supposed to feel like, so when you make it from scratch, you know when it is right.

Many people use artist chalk for flower making. It is non-toxic, but NOT to be eaten. Some people (kids) to to eat gumpaste flowers, so be sure they know to remove them from the cake, and that they are not edible.

You can also use dry food colors, luster dust, petal dusts available at cake decorating stores and online.
