I have a wedding cake for July 8 and I made one layer of the largest tier. What is the best way to store this? I have been given several very differenet recommendations - what is the consensus?

Suggestion 1: Freeze the cake, un-iced

Suggestion 2: Crumb coat and wrap air tight with saran wrap and it can be left out on the counter.

Suggestion 3: Lightly cover with a large sheet, un-iced - DO NOT FREEZE!!!

All your help is SO appreciated!!!

Definitely freeze it for the freshest results. It is up to you whether you crumb coat or not. I generally don't. Week old cake is NOT fresh.

Yep..I say definitely wrap it tight & freeze it.

I don't think you should ever leave a cake on the counter wrapped or not for a week...you could have a mold problem.

Can I freeze the cake after it has been crumb coated?

Freeze it right away. I can't imagine leaving a baked cake out for a week before frosting. Wrap tightly.

I agree. Freeze. With or without crumb coat, whichever will work.

I say freeze. I have never put a crumb coat on. Just wrap good. HTH
