I am sooo confused!! I keep reading about satin ice, wilton fondant and mmf. What is the differnce? Also, where can I purchase some of the satin ice (since so many say that is all they will use)? I tried the mmf this past weekend, and I totally am horrid at it. I wouldn't even post the pic cuz of how it looked! I have tried to do a search for satin ice, but to no avail. Pweeeeese help!! TIA!!

IMO, Wilton tastes horrible!!! If you're lucky enough to have a cake shoppe near you, you might be able to find SatinIce or Pettinice. I personally prefer SatinIce, as I find it easier to work with. MMF is too much of a pain for me to make. I have to order SatinIce online. You can get it from sugarcraft.com or cakedeco.com or countrykitchensa.com or cakesbysam.com.

It is most likely not the fondant that gave you so many problems. It takes practice and patience to prevent the folds and wrinkles that happen around the bottom of the cake.

A suggestion for practice, buy some Wilton fondant and use either an inverted cake pan or a cake dummy to practice. The atecousa.com site has a demo you can watch about applying fondant.

When you get the hang of it, then making it is much cheaper, or buying the expensive stuff may be worth the extra money.

But you can be sure the Wilton fondant is the right texture for practicing.

I have never tried Satin Ice but I love the look of fondant and hate the taste so I think I will give this a shot. I have ehard the MMF is very hard to work with.

Good luck!!
