I just bought the Wilton extra long rolling pin and was looking at getting the cutting mat too.

Does anyone own/use one of these? What do you think of it - useful/hopeless etc.....

I just don't want to waste my money on another 'gadget' that I might be disappointed with! icon_smile.gif

I bought the cutting mat, used it once. I found the fondant stuck to it much more than my counter.

I will say I'm not a fondant expert, or even close. Still just playing.

Yes I did and I love it. Works great for smaller cakes. Lightly smear it with Crisco (veg shortening) then roll the rondant out. You can then pick the mat up and transport the fondant to the cake.

For larger cakes, a piece of vinyl works just as good.

I have both of them..I use the rolling more than I mat.. But I have not had any bad experience with any of them, and I used Fondant all the time.

To me they are a keeper.. I like them icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

Since I discovered you could put the fondant on the cake still on the matt, then peel the matt away, I really like it. It needs to be secured to the table though while I'm working on it or it slides around. so i tape the corners down.

..I use to do the tape thing too but now I lay a piece of the heavy vinyl over the Wilton cutting mat. That way I still have the measurements and the vinyl holds the Wilton mat in place. icon_biggrin.gif

I use mine all the time when working with fondant. Take a wet rag and wipe the table where you need to lay the mat, it will help keep it in one spot! I lightly grease mine with crisco and then roll. I love the cutting marks on it - makes getting the right size so easy!

I use mine a lot and love it. I just spray my table with water and then smooth it out to prevent it from sliding.
