I'm going to be making my best frinds cake this week... we are both the craziest Dallas Stars Fan, so I thought I'd do that as the theme.

I own the wilton Star Pan, & was gonna use that & star tip the top in black buttercream &make a star in the middle w/happy birthday written there & then green buttercream on the bottom. So it's the dallas stars colors.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had some ideas. The galleries for the sports section are not working right.

Thanks

Are you dead set on using buttercream only?
I did a football theme cake for a client. It was for the Steelers. I did a gumpaste helmet painted with their logo and the number of his favorite player. I also got a chocolate football mold and made a football and then piped the NFL logo on it. Then I used fondant and made the diamonds on wires to spiral from the top.
You might not want to go through all that trouble but maybe instead of just doing the star do a slightly larger cake underneath the star and use fondant cut-outs of stars on it? I would also try using some of those sparkling sugars on it. It will really make a difference in the whole look of it.
Im not familiar with the Dallas Stars. Is that another name for the Cowboys or a different sport?

Oh, ok! Then how about making the bottom a hockey puck and then have the star on top of it?
