I've been making my own fondant up till now, soooo...

how much Satin Ice or Pettinice would I need to buy to cover, say, a 14", 10", 8", and 6"?

How do you know just how much you'll need?

Approximately how much do you spend on a typical wedding cake (3-5 tiers) if you're purchasing your fondant?

i buy in 5 pound buckets and for a cake that size i would buy 10 pounds and that would give me some left overs, depending on what the decorations are on it.

Visit the Atecousa site, it has a chart that gives you this information. It is a great site.

All of the recent Wilton yearbooks have great fondant charts for all sizes of tiers.

Also, the wilton.com website has a chart:

I find the amounts suggested work out quite well for any brand of fondant.

I've tried to follow the Wilton charts, but I never seem to have enough to cover the cake at 1/4". Do you use 1/4 inch or less? I will keep plugging away at it though. I've never taken a class, so I'm sure that I'm doing something wrong. icon_confused.gif
