I have a cake & choc. chip & sugar cookies due Saturday at 2:00. I'm trying not to do things too early -but I'm supposed to babysit Friday night....

Would you suggest I make the cookies tonight? Or will they be kinda bad by Saturday? Or should I just crumb-coat the cake tonight? Would that be too early??? I certainly want it to taste good - but I also want to get it all done!

Could you bake the cake tonight and freeze it? Maybe make the cookie dough and refrigerate it? I wouldn't bake the cookies yet, I think it's still early. Will you have time to do anything Friday morning or afternoon?

I agree with shelbur10, bake and freeze the cake, take it out friday and crumb coat it before you go out to sit. Then finish it after if you can.

For the cookies, make the dough you can either refrigerate or freeze it. I would bake the cookies on Sat. early morning because I always feel those get hard too fast if not completely covered in Icing of in tupperware.

Good Luck.

I have the cake baked already. And the sugar cookie dough is made and is in the freezer - I somehow thought the cake was due Friday and that I was going to have to get it done by Thursday night - so I did a bunch of prep work. My buttercream is made already too.... I don't want to leave everything to the last second, but I do want it all to taste good too.... I guess I COULD bake at least the choc. chip cookies Sat. morning.......

On Friday though - I work full-time and the babysitting is right after that - so I probably do have to get stuff done by Thurs or early Sat. morning - unless I cancel the babysitting job....

I would freeze the cake it will be better anyway.
If you feel you have enough stuff preped, I would leave the decorating until Sat. Morning. Make sure to leave yourself a LARGE NOTE to TAKE THE CAKE OUT OF FREEZER when you get home on Friday night, so it starts to thaw in the fridge. You might need to leave a few notes, depending on how late you will get home Friday after your 2 shifts!
Then you get up in the morning and you are good to go.
If You have time tonight, prep your piping bags and figure out all the tips you will need and make yourself a list. I do this all the time and the only time I have trouble, is if my little elfs come by and swipe some stuff!

Good Luck.

Ugh I just don't think I can do it all Saturday morning - bake choc. chip cookies, cut out, make, and decorate (w/ fondant) sugar cookies, and ice and decorate the cake..... I didn't do anything today. I think I might bake the sugar cookies tomorrow & put the fondant on them and set them in their trays - then wrap it really well w/ the press 'n seal. Then maybe I'll ice the cake on Friday & try to make sure that's all good. I may wait until the last minute to make the choc. chip cookies Saturday morning and finish the cake....

Do you think that sounds good? I'm making a graduation cake... so basically it's the half sports ball w/ a chocolate top, fondant tassel, some choc. letters, etc..... maybe I'll do some of the choc. letters tomorrow while I'm baking the cookies.... I already have the top of the hat made... so maybe the cookies & tassel........

Man every cake I do makes me wish I didn't work full time!

Why don't you decorate the cake Thurs. night and then make your cookie dough on Friday and then bake the cookies on Sat. morning?

I always decorate cakes two days in advance and they are always fresh when you cut into them.

Good luck!
