I have never made decorated cookies before, and am thinking about making 'thank you' cookies for my daughter's birthday party.

How long in advance can you make cookies? Do they keep well for a long period of time if wrapped?

Thanks!

I make and decorate my fondant before I make the cookie 3 days prior. I'll bake the cookie 2 days before, set the frosting on the cookie when it comes out of the oven then 1 day to completly cool down and dry. Then I wrap and decorate the day before. I always attatch a note on the back of the wrapped cookie or tag stating that consumption of the cookie should be within 5 days after receiving. Freshness can not be guarunteed after that time.

Others seem to have great luck with the freshness of the cookie for longer periods of time but I am leery or paranoid so I like add the note. Hoping they will eat it before then but......For those that like to keep them as "keep sakes" I have a relative that has a cookie I made 8 years ago that is now mummified. It looks like I made it yesturday. It's in perfect condition.

Not much help with the actual time frame you might be asking for...hope it helps a little.

It depends on the cookie recipe, weather conditions but generally they will remain fresher of wrapped. Kinda of like cereal - leave them open and they get stale faster.
