Oh I think they are DARLING!!!! I'm getting ready to try my hand at making flowers out of MMF using my gumpaste cutter kit. Your photo gives me hope!

I think they look great! I have not gotten up the nerve to try them myself but when I do I hope they look half as nice as yours!

Did you use a cutter for the petals or did you form them by hand?

thanks for your opinions. i used a cutter and then used the modelling tools to smooth and thin them out.

They look beautiful! What you might want try is the ball tool on the ends of the petals. It will thin the ends out and "ruffle" them a bit.

I was taught the "Wilton" way. It's kinda of a long process to make the roses but as far as thinning the petals I use a thin foam pad that came with my kit and use the ball tool starting at the base of one petal roll it to the tip (half way around the petal) and then do the same thing on the other side of the petal starting at the base again and roll it up to the tip. If you use a lot of pressure you'll get it really ruffly and then it looks more like a carnation so I guess you just need to practice the pressure until you find what works.

Your roses look really nice, but I agree about using the ball tool. You need to use the foam piece that comes in the kit. Flatten out the petals like you did and then gently roll the ball tool along the edges (with the petal on the foam) to create gentle flowing ruffles. But, great job!

Well, I use the Wilton Fondant mat and roll my fondant until I can see the lines on my mat through the fondant (1/16"?). You can purchase the the thin foam pad at a craft store like Michaels or Joanne's. It's a Wilton product and it comes with the pink thick foam pad and the thin foam pad. If you purchase the Wilton Course 3 book, it has the rose instructions in it or better yet if you send me your email I can copy that page out of my book and email it to you.

I think those roses are beautiful. They look so delicate. I am still trying to perfect them.

Y'all who know how to do them. I have that thin piece of foam that came in the class kit, but would the thicker piece of foam that you can buy separately work better?

jacqui,
that would be so helpful if you could copy that page for me. i'm in queensland australia and there aren't many places to get cake decorating equipment so i think i'll have to have a look around online and see what the cost of shipping will be. i'll pm you my email.

Oh my gosh, ladyonzlake, those are incredible. How in the world did you get the color tips on there? Are they painted?

Yeesh, if I can ever get to that level of decorating, I will be one happy cookie, and I will thank God every day!

I just spent the last 2 hours making my first roses out of fondant and came on here to vent. Is there anything I can do to keep my foam from curling? Is there a secret to keeping the fondant from tearing around my jelly bean center? I have the tooth picks stuck in styro foam cups to dry...is there a better way?

Thank you. I started with white fondant roses. I took petal dust and brushed the tips and insides of the roses pink and then I took Pearl dust and painted the whole rose. At the bridal shower everyone thought my roses were silk roses.

Kristy, I just sent you an email about the roses.

Greenhorn, it takes me 10 minutes to make one fondant rose! I dont' know why your foam is curling...too much pressure? Sometime my fondant tears at the edges of the petals when I use the ball tool but it adds to the realism of the rose. If you look at a real rose some of the petals have tears int them. As far as drying them I purchased a styrofoam block that is an inch thick and about 12"x 8". I might have cut it down but I put it into a rubbermaid clear plastic box with a lid so I can store my roses dust free and they can dry in it.

Thank you ladyonzlake! I was feeling terribly incompetent as I was making them. Your roses are outstanding! I'm going to get some petal dust!

Does anyone know of a posting on CC or anywhere on the internet that would give step-by-step instructions on how to make these roses. I have not attempted these yet, but I agree with the rest of you - they are beautiful!!
