Yippee! Here is my first cake ever that didn't keep me up til 2 a.m. I started decorating (YES, clean kitchen, sat down and DECorated) at 5 p.m. last night. Scroll work took 3 hours, but it was in the fridge and doweled and boxed up by 9:30. Cleaned up, packed a "go bag" for the trip to deliver 1.5 hour away this morning, and went to bed! A first! I can't tell you how refreshing it was to decorate during the day and not be up all night! Try it, you'll like it! ![]()
Oh, here's the cake too--I love how it turned out, and it matched the bridesmaid's dresses and the bride's dress (it had blue in it; go figure) PERfectly. The generator didn't turn out to work for the fountain, but other than that, it went perfectly, without a hitch. Marble cakes with chocolate filling, frosted with White as Snow Frosting from on here. Crisco is not my usual choice for anything, but it had to sit in the trunk for 1.5 hour and then outside for several more, and it had to be white-white, so it was a safe bet.
You'll note the lack of topper. I got a pic before the bride showed up with the topper. She used that one where the bride is dragging the groom off by the scruff of his neck; not what I would have chosen, but they loved it.
Absolutely gorgeous scroll work....and I had a good day too! Two successful wedding cakes, a rehearsal dinner sheet cake with 2 fondant fish, and 200 chocolate wedding favors...all delivered within 2 days!!! And now I'm up working on the cake for tomorrow...but we love doing this, don't we?
I really love your cake. The scroll work is great.
Great job!!!
I went on and on last night until DH was tired of hearing me say, "Wow, you just don't know how NICE it is to be done this early!" "Did I mention it's so cool to not be up all night working on a cake?", and "Can you beLIEVE I'm done this early?" He was like, "Um, yeah, you mentioned that." lol
It was wierd to sit down at 5 pm and work on it--like I was doing something wrong...haha, but everything went smooth as could be.
I loved it, and so did the bride.
OOPs--double post; sorry!

I loved it, and so did the bride. Didn't realize how tiring scroll work is for your hand (cramp!), but it was really fun to do.
Your cake is simply beautiful! Love that blue!!!
Wow, that is gorgeous scroll work and cake. Congratulations on getting to bed early ![]()
For some unknown reason, people can't seem to understand our obsession about cakes ![]()

That cake turned out so nice, I love the blue.
You're all so kind! I did the scroll work half and half--I used different Wilton presses from 2 sets, then embellished them freehand from there. It was really fun and took the pressure off doing the whole thing freehand, which I'm not very imaginative about doing...
