I made my very first batch of MMF this week, and loved working with it. I had a thought ( and question) though...would it be pssible to add food coloring to the marshmallows after you melt them in the microwave? I have arthritis, and all that kneading coloring into the fondant is a little difficult sometimes. I just wondered if it would work...has anyone ever tried this? Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have added the color to the melted marshamallows before adding the powdered sugar and it works great.

The only problem is if you need more than one color.

yes this does work, for multiple colors, divide your batch up and make the smaller batches with the colors you want.

YES YES YES!!! this is the only way i color my MMF as I hurt my hands when kneeding in the color. I have problems with my hands going numb on me so anything to releive the stres on them.

Here is a smaller batch version of MMF if you don't want to color a large batch all one color. I have doubled and trippled this recipe if I need more colored fondant, but the large batch is to much for me to work with So i tend to use this one more.

I received this recipe from Bunnywoman on the Wilton Boards.

Marshmallow fondant

1 cup mini marshmallows
1 tbsp water
1 1/2- 1 3/4 cup powder sugar

Place marshmallows in a standard 1 cup measuring cup and push down and pack them in. Place in a microwave safe bowl and add the water. Put in the microwave for about 20 seconds. Just long enough for them to soften and puff up. Take out and stir with a spoon until it is combined well.

At this point it looks kind of soupy. Then add the sugar and mix and fold until all is incorporated and it is no longer sticky. I take it out of the bowl when it gets to the point where most of the sugar is incorporated and I knead it in my hands. This takes roughly about 5-7 minutes. Take a fondant roller or a regular rolling pin and roll out just as you would Wilton's fondant.

You can get this fondant almost paper thin and it also repairs well.
It's cheap, easy to work with, and tastes great too.

Any questions let me know, Hopefully this will make it a little easier for you.

Leily,
THANK YOU so much for this HELPFUL info! I am making a cake this week where this info will come in VERY handy! I really appreciate you typing all the instructions out for me! I also have numbness along with my arthritic hands, but if you are ANYTHING like me, it doesn't stop me from doing cakes, or any other craft I happen to be into!

so glad I could help. No my hands going numb has not stopped me at all. My chiro has warned me that I am too young to keep pushing it and that I will probably have problems when I am older. Not only do cakes push the limits as a hobby/part time job, but my full time job has actually made my hands worse =( So i am always looking for any way to relieve my hands of the pressure.
