I can't sleep. I close my eyes and I see cake designs. I swear that I make so much buttercream that my house constantly smells of it and the smell is embedded in my skin. My husband is so bored of my talking about cakes that I think he's about ready to duct tape my mouth shut so that he can think of something other than cakes.

I'm even thinking about going and baking 6, 8, & 10 inch round cakes and a 10 inch square cake for a cake project I want to do for my sister-in-law's birthday, even though she won't be here for her birthday, just because I have been obsessing about this cake for over a month and I am not going to let the fact that she's not going to be here stop me from making it.

Nah, I'm not cake crazed at all...

Since I wrote this post I have done the math to decide how many recipes I need to make all the cake I need for the project, then I went out to my kitchen and started cleaning it (my husband cooked tonight - it was not a pretty sight) and now I'm taking a 10 minute break before I start the process.

You are SO not alone!

I have 10, 8, 6 inch round cakes, 10 inch square cake, and a small oval cake in the oven baking right now. I'm just using the Enhanced Cake Mix recipe for this cuz it's actually not that special a cake, I'm doing it for fun.

I am so there with you. Thank god I found this website because, quite frankly, everyone is starting to get sick of hearing me discuss cakes icon_smile.gif I've even taken to emailing family members with my new cake pics ..
I work really hard on a cake and think, "Oh, I need a break.." and I don't think I can go a day before another idea pops into my head and I want to get started again. My house is a wreck, dishes in the sink, laundry piling up, children filthy icon_smile.gif, and still I want to decorate, decorate, decorate!!

Cake decorating is a hobby that definitely gets out of hand! LOL

We ain't alone..........

How can I put this together. What colors will work together. 2 layers, 3 layers, stacked, doweled, do I have enough blue coloring, if I cut it this way will it work. I need more marshmallows.......all night long. My brain never shuts down, especially when I'm planning a new cake.

What's wrong with us?

I never realized the poem was there either!! Too cute!! and too true!! My DH keeps threatening to send me to Baker's Anonymous. He says I've got an addiction!! Imagine that!! icon_biggrin.gif

I need to be making flowers for an upcoming cake and I'm on here instead!

For some reason, I can't upload pictures. I've finally convinced DH that we need a new internet service provider that is faster and will let me upload pictures - they're coming out Monday!! My fingers are crossed.

I did not realize it was a link either. I thought it was just a cute warning! LOL. I constantly find myself thinking about new cake projects. I rarely do cakes for anyone but friends and family, but if someone asks for something that I've been wanting to do but have not had the time to attempt, I will generally agree to do it just so I can try (but let them know that the final product is not set in stone for how it will work - they must be willing to allow me full creative freedom on the finer details). Since I kind of create as I go most of the time.

I'm soooo happy to know that I'm not alone!!!! icon_biggrin.gif I go to bed thinking of cakes and wake up thinking of cakes. The last time I thought about anything this much was when I realized I was in love with my husband!! What does that say about me???? icon_confused.gif When I finally do get to sleep, if I wake up early, I start thinking about cakes (especially if I have one to do) and can't stop and go back to sleep, so I just go ahead and get up and get started! This is REALLY sad!!! icon_cry.gif Oh well, I guess there are worse things we could obsess over! At least this one occasionally brings in some $$$$!! icon_biggrin.gif

Well, I got about 3 hours of sleep last night...er this morning... after I got 5 cakes baked. Then i got up, ran to the store for my weekend Propel Water fix and then came home and made the MMF for the cakes. It was my first time successfully making MMF... well, we'll see if it was successful, it's cooling now.

Tonight my hubby was heading to bed when I sat down to this site and he said, "there's groups for people like you." I have insomnia as it is, but this site is NOT helping LOL. I've been up to 4am reading stuff here. I'm pretty new to cake decorating and I just want to absorb as much as I can. I don't actually do too many cakes because I've got four kids 8 and under and a kitchen with very little work space. Of course if I spent the same amount of time I spend on this site, working on cakes instead, I'd be making lots of cakes! I hate it when I get behind reading the forums too and have to go back a page to catch up. AHHHH - somebody stop me! icon_surprised.gif

My husband thinks i've gotten totally obcessed w/the baking/decorating of cakes lately too. But he really does not mind since he likes cakes. I really want to do a cool 4th of july cake and have been designing this for weeks now. But there really is nobody to make it for. So I make them and send them to work with him. This one I'm doing the cake layers red/white/blue too just for the effect. I'm not the best cake designer, but it sure is fun to do the ones I have done. Of course, nobody can use the dining room table while I'm creating b/c the parts are there for days. I've got flowers in flower formers and butterfly's on wax paper all drying on the dining room table right now.

SheilaF i have the same problem, i have no family in fl except for my dad and everyone is trying to eat healthy so i have to send my cakes to my hubby's job. This week they actually requested 1 because its only been like 3 weeks since i last sent 1 but its no big deal, it gives me a chance to practice. I wish i would have thought of the red, white & blue but i bought the checkerboard pan set and would really like to try it with chocolate frosting, my 1st.
