yep - made mine today! icon_biggrin.gif My SIL offered to make me one, but she can't cook AT ALL - so i passed! We're having friends over for a BBQ. This way I can have what I want, LOL! I make all the cakes for my coworkers, so I *hope* they get me one from a bakery and not the grocery store!!

My husband threw me a surpirse party for my 40th last year, and had one of my friends call me and order an "over the hill" cake for her church paster... I did the cake, her husband picked it up that morning... I went out shopping for the afternoon - came home to a house full of people and amid the food and table decorations - was my "over the hill" birthday cake! If I had known I was doing my own cake, I would have done something awesome! Oh well. I told my husband I want him to decorate one for me next year!

I'm just waiting for that day (my birthday) to come, or any birthday or occasion. It's a good excuse for me to make a cake. so no doubt i will make my own cake this aug. can't wait!

Oooo beachcakes! You and I share a birthday! I never realized till this thread!
Happy Happy Birthday Baby! Image
You say it's your birthday! Well, it's my birthday too yeah! Image (Thank You, John Lennon!)

To answer the topic question: I don't make my own cake, or anyone else's, in the immediate family. None of us in our house can stand cake anymore, after 20 years of about 15-20 cakes a month. We have, on occasion, bought a Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream cake, but that is pretty much it.
Am I weird?

I guess I need to read the rest of the thread to know what others do.

Who else doesn't really eat cake, but makes them all the time for other people?

I made my own cake this past year. 1) I needed to practice and 2) I knew what I wanted to have and if it is your birthday, why not! It does say "HAPPY" right?! LOL And I had fun doing it. I have a picture in my photos. Happy Birthday to everyone! party.gifbirthday.gif I will probably make mine again this year--for practice icon_wink.gif

I don't bake my own birthday cake and to be honest, this is the first year since DH and I have been married that I have even gotten a birthday cake...so needless to say, I was so shocked that I didn't even mind that it was store bought!
