I'm so nervous about my customer picking up her cake in the morning icon_cry.gif . I tried my best but it doesn't look like the picture of the one she wanted. Why do my cakes never turn out the way I picture them in my head?!?

I totally messed up on the ruffles, that go around the whole cake, and there is one corner where the icing is all messed up. Agh!

I mean, it looks OK... but definitely not as beautiful and impressive as I wanted my first official order to be, and definitely not as nice as the picture of the one I was copying icon_sad.gif

You know I have been told I am my worst critic. I am sure that is probably the problem here. Have you posted it? I'm sure it came out beautiful!!! Keep you head high and learn from your mistakes (if any).. icon_smile.gif

I know I have had several cakes not turn out the way I envisioned in my head.
Where's a pic? Let us be the judge, you just might be too hard on yourself. icon_wink.gif

I don't have a pic of it yet on the puter. I am still old fashioned and using a regular old camera. DH says I'm crazy and always find the worst, lol. He thinks the cake looks fine. I am a total perfectionist though, and I am not happy with it. Maybe I will feel better in the morning when I haven't been staring at it for hours. I will be sure to post pics when I get them!

Melissa...I bet it's great! We're all just too hard on ourselves. My cakes never, ever come out the way I picture them either but mostly because all the pictures in my head look like Colette Peters designs--LOL!

I thought Collette Peters only lived in my head...LOL. I don't know why I expect the things I make to be perfect. I've only been at this about a year. I think we all need to cut ourselves some slack, especially since the cakes we drool over in magazines and tv aren't usually cake. Just dummies that don't sag, droop or move because they're hot glued together. I bet your cake is great!

I'm sure you did a great job on it Melissa! As stated above, we are our own worse critics .. I always look back at my cakes and say "I should have done this.. I shoulda done that" ... it seems the customer loves the cakes and they come back for more! So don't fret, I'm sure your cake looks absolutely beautiful !!

Thanks guys! You are right, the customer liked the cake. I added a couple roses last night at midnight 'cause I was stressing about it, lol, and it looked better. I was fairly happy with it, although, like Lisa said, all my cakes look like Colette Peter's cakes in my head, so I'll never be completely happy with them! icon_rolleyes.gif

Sure they liked the cake, nobody expects them to be exactly like a picture...or even perfect...except us when we are decorating them!

I just had to get myself a Collette Peters book so I can stress myself out over trying to make a cake look like hers too! LOL Anyway, glad it all came out all right! Have a great weekend! veejay

Glad to hear the customer was satisfied, we are our worst critic.
Learning how to swallow our pride on some things (like when we are not satisfied with something but the customer is) can be the hardest lesson to learn.
Just remember we can all come here and 'vent' about what we feel are our mistakes icon_wink.gif
