Let The Races Begin! Wilton Contest

Wilton's new cake competition is posted on their site! I've been watching for this wondering when they'd announce the juicy details. Here's the link for anyone interested:

They're having competitions for cakes, cookies, cupcakes or mini cakes, and other decorated delights... so looks like there's something there for all of us! We have some VERY talented people here, so good luck to all who decide to compete!
Something new this year, or at least I think it's new... they're letting us vote this year from among the semi-finalist in each category, so that will be fun. ![]()
i will have to check this out.. I dont know if I am good enought to enter but you never know
Thanks for the info! I'm definitely not good enough to enter that, but wouldn't it be nice to win $5000 and a trip to the school!! I'm sure there are alot of CC members who have a great chance at this, I'm going to be sure to keep up with the results on that one!
Hey, cakesbgood!
Anyone is good enough to enter that contest. You should give it your best shot at a practice cake, then decide from there.

This is all very true!! I don't know, I really don't think I could compete with the cakes that would be entered but maybe I'll give it some thought and do it just for fun if nothing else
. Good luck to everyone who enters ![]()
I would love to enter that contest, but I don't live in the states so I can't. Wilton sells all over the world, but outsiders can't enter. Makes me a little upset. I wouldn't mind a box of Wilton supplies instead of a trip. Not that I would win, but I can't even enter.
Since we just have to submit a photo of the cake, does that mean we don't have to go through the hassle of actually baking the cake? That'd be awesome!
What do you guys think?
I think your probably right! If you already have a picture of one you've done I don't see why that couldn't be entered.
Awesome! I think I'll just do a dummy cake. I've never entered a competition before so I think this will be fun.
Are there any themes or anything like that? That's a pretty broad contest. Are there levels? Like professional, semi-professional, BEGINNER??? There doesn't seem to be a lot of info on there. I'd love to enter - but I wouldn't even know where to begin w/out any theme or idea of any kind.... btw, if you're just submitting a photo, how do they know you are the actual one who created it? Is it just the honor system here? I mean, I'd love to submit a cake from a professional site and then win $5000 and the trip (not that I would....)
- No really, I wouldn't but I don't know that others wouldn't do that! (no one from here of course!). Anyway, just requesting more information if anyone has it!
I just submitted my entry...we'll see. We won't know until October ? maybe ? ![]()
This may be a silly question but do they look for you to display your use of Wilton products in your entry? (i.e. if you enter a cookie, are they looking for you to be using a Wilton shaped cutter?) Or are they truly just looking for / judging on the finished product?
I think it's just the finished product. Take a look at last year's winner and runner up--no Wilton products that are easily seen.

Photographs must be of a cake, cookie, cupcake, mini cake or other decorated food item which has been decorated by the person who is entering the contest and may not have been submitted to another regionally or nationally publicized recipe contest. Limit one entry per envelope.

Hello all
Here is my question: have you checked the images of the cakes that have won in the past? They are all magnificent cakes, great creations, all seem so professionally done. And then the prize is a 2 week course at The Wilton School of Cake Decorating and Confectionery Arts . Wouldn't it be great if they gave the $5K to the 'best overall' and the course to someone 'who shows great potential' and would seriously benefit from the course?
just an opinion.
ciao
HI karateka
You're right, there is always more to learn;or a different way to do something; I look at the past winners and think 'they could be teaching that course' & I wonder if some of them are not teachers already.
But, then there's the $$$$$; $5000 is not petty cash even in today's economy. And all the winners definitely deserved their prizes! however,I still like my solution, give 2 prizes.... considering how many people participate in this contest, I think 2 prizes would be appropriate (the current best overall, and the future 'best overall to be'!! ![]()
ciao ciao
I benefitted greatly from the class! Everything I knew up until taking the masters course was self taught through various books and magazines and talk groups like this one.
I won the 2004's Your Take On Cake contest.
2 photos had to be submitted...one from the top and one from the front. You had to tell about the entry...how you did it and so on in so many words.
When I was selected, someone came to my home and conducted an interview...had me share, in detail, how I made the cake...this was one way of verifying that I was the creator.
Anyone, any level of skill, over 18 and a legal resident of U.S. or Canada could enter...there were over 1500 entries.
I had never entered a cake contest before in my life. I truly never thought I would win....but I thought to myself "I KNOW I WON'T IF I DON'T ENTER!" So, I entered....three different cakes.
Outside of marriage and my kids...it was the biggest thrill in my life!
Soooooooooooo....
Enter away! Never know 'til you try....
Good luck to all those that do!

Never thought you would win??? Did you LOOK at your cake that you submitted? There's no QUESTION why you won in '04. I just looked up your cake and I still can't believe that it isn't a real diaper bag with all the accessories. It is such a masterpiece! And, you were self taught! Holy cow! I am so very impressed. What did the other two cakes look like that you submitted?
Thank you!
I know what talent is out there...No, I never thought I would win. A thought actually went through my mind when I first thought of entering..."Hey, maybe no one else knows about this contest and I can win by default!" Really, that thought really crossed my mind. LOL
I am always challenging myself with something different so I thought "why not enter?" " What have I got to lose?" "Gosh! It'd sure be wonderful to be able to take that class!"
The other two are in my photos...the pot of beans and the lamp were the other two entries.
i read the rules and it doesn't say anything about using cake dummies or type of materials (like everything has to be edible). does anyone know if this is ok or not?? can you use wire to support decos?? does it matter if it is a dummy cake or not??
