I think dummies are ok, but if you are doing something wholly unbelievable, you should make it out of cake to prove it can be done with cake. Otherwise, anybody can do it on a dummy. I mean those things like an inverted pyramid, or something equally impossible. Otherwise, I can't imagine a rule against dummies, since it's a decorating contest, not a taste contest. But I would also tend to think that most of the decorations should be edible. Obviously, wedding toppers are often not edible, and wire is sometimes used to hold things, on real cakes. And I'm not entirely sure there is a rule against using inedible decorations, it just seems like using a dummy and all inedible decorations would violate the spirit of the contest if not strictly speaking the rules.

But then again, I'm not a judge, so my opinion is just that....an opinion.

yeah, I was just thinking about using wire to hold on decos....and I'd just rather use a cake dummy then make a real cake that i'd have to find someone to give it too!! plus, w/a dummy...I'd be able to keep it and use it as a demo for my customers (when/if I ever get my darn shop built!!)
