I've been poking around this site today with my particular interest of the day being Gumpaste Flowers.

I was looking under a section where it showed several gumpaste flowers done by VickieC. I read in some that she was taking courses from Scott Woolley. Does anyone know where this man is located? VickieC's flowers are soooooo beautiful and I would love to find out.

Thanks!

Scott is located in New York City. Here's a link to his website: http://www.cakesbydesign.cc/

He also has a book out in paperback "Cakes By Design-The Magical World of Sugar Art". Here's the link at Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/1585673331/?tag=cakecentral-20

His book has detailed instructions on making gumpaste flowers as well as some great cake recipes. You can purchase cutters, veiners, etc from his website or studio. He is a fantastic teacher and well worth every penny.

Well, I don't know where Scott Woolley is located but he has a wonderful book out called " Cakes by Design, The Magical World of Sugar Art", I just got a copy of mine a week ago and it is so wonderful!!! If you can't take Lessons from him personally, maybe you can get the book and get started that way.

Thanks, guys!

I live in upstate SC, so taking private classess is out of the question, but I guess the book is worth it, huh?

By the way, Vickie, your flowers are just beautiful. Are you taking private lessons?

Wandootie-
I took 6 group classes with Scott but my last one was over a year ago. If you get to travel to the Atlanta, Ga area, Nicolas Lodge is also an excellent and well known teacher. I haven't taken any classes with him (yet icon_wink.gif ). He also has written many books on the sugar arts that may be helpful to you.

I really love looking at Scott Woolley's cakes, they are so beautiful! I don't have his book as yet, and would dearly love to have his video (about $150)but have ordered and am waiting for a book by Nicholas Lodge to come in the mail. Mr. Lodge had classes here in Dallas earlier this spring, but I didn't try to get in, I have no experience at all with the flowers! Jan

VickiC,
I was wondering if th book has instructions for beginners. I have made fondant and gum paste roses as well as a couple other flowers, but don't consider myself out of the beginner stage as os yet. Would this be a good book to purchase to advace my skills, and do you need his specific tools to make the flowers in the book? Any advice would be appreciated. Your flowers are incredible!!!

newtocakes, I've also taken classes with Scott and found his book to be as detailed as his classes. If you are a beginner you shouldn't have any problems... the right tools make a big difference. Scott also sells all of the cutters for the flowers taught in his book and the other tool necessary to make them. Even beginners in my classes were able to produce beautiful flowers like a pro.
