Im a cake decorator at a small bakery. New owners took over 2 weeks ago, and yesterday the health dept closed them down due to the old owner not fixing what he was suppose to... so here's me the nice friendly cake decorator calliung up all 20 of my orders for this weekend and volumteering to still make the cake at home.. so now i have 8 half sheets, and 6 1/4 sheets plus a small wedding cake that i need to bake, decorate, and deliver by saturday morning... and I completely crazy???.. lol .. I guess I figure im out of a job for at least a month, so I need to make money somehow.. lol

I couldn't do it...I'm too slow. It'd take me an entire weekend just to do 2 or 3 large cakes. Having worked in a bakery though, you have probably mastered decorating and time management. Best of luck and share some pics with us if you can!

What an interesting topic line! Got my attention right away, I thought... here's a kindred soul!

I agree, Lisa, I wouldn't be able to get even a small portion of that done, I am way too slow and have to stop and sit too often in the process!

You may be out of your mind Magenta, but you go for it anyway! Those people you are making those cakes for could be a goldmine of customers in the future! Janice

what upset the customers more is the fact that the owner never called them yesterday.. i calle today /// only coz i was at my work pickin up some things i needed and figured oo what the heck ill do them.. if anything, i plan on opening up my own bakery in the near future.. so i can steal these customers away icon_smile.gif

Hey, you don't have to steal them, they were given to you! I'm sure they will really appreciate what you are doing, I know I would if I had ordered a cake and suddenly thought I'd have to find another way to get it!

Maybe this is the perfect opportunity for you to start that bakery...just work from home for a little while until you get it all arranged! Good luck!

I'll call in favors with family and friends and get an assembly line going, one mixing and baking, one watching the ovens and getting them out and ready for you to ice and decorate.......if you ever needed a reason to call in some favors, I'd say the time is now!

OH MY, you have taken on a job!!! My grandmother would actually have a blast if that happened to me and she would jump right in and help, my mother on the other hand, would let me use her oven but then she would dissappear until I was finished! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

afew people said they would actually just go to another bakery... which is fine with me... i got my hands full.. and a few cakes i told the people i wouldnt do only beacuse they were small 7'' cakes a nd it wasnt worth my time and delivering them because i was going with what the bakery charges.. id rather get paid $70 a cake for the 1/2 sheets then $13 for the small ones

icon_wink.gif i dont even want to think about how tired you are!!!!man, what a crazy busy weekend. go to sleep now.
after filling in all the orders, is there any way to keep those customers coming to you...at home for orders? that would be a great way to get customers lined up so you could be a step closer to getting your own business?
let us know how your home baking goes!
good luck
