I wanted to try inserting a fresh flower (lily maybe? from my garden) into the top of my cake. Of couse they didnt sell any of those flower spikes at the store-is there any alternative way to add a flower without them?

try wraping the stem in plastic wrap, or even carefully tape it to protect the cake from direct contact. another good option is a thick drinking straw cut to insert into the cake and hold the flower in place.
